My grandfather's old 028 AV Stihl saw worked great for years. Then I loaned it to a buddy. I know, bad move. It wouldn't stay running and died when I pulled the throttle trigger. I replaced the fuel intake hose, cleaned everything, filters, and eventually rebuit the carb with a Tillotson carb kit. Still no go. I sent it to my local shop who said that the internal gaskets (the ones that you supposedly can't reach) were shot because I soaked the carb in carburetor cleaner. They said it needed a new carb.
Is there a decent carb substitute beyond the junky foreign ones? Does Tillotson make a replacement?
