New campaign time?

i think we need to bring landscapers into the fold. They are consistently planting trees incorrectly and then over mulching them. So proper planting and mulching is what im getting at.

How about "elevating " trees... that is a common practice amongst arborists, becasue its "easy" and pays the bills..

Hard on the trees though...

or how about not removing live limbs over 3-4" daimeter when pruning... still a common practice and again very hard on the trees...

we should not include all landscapers, people with magnetic signs on their trucks and they say they are landscapers are the ones who know nothing about right tree right place. they mow lawns and consider themselves landscapers. there are good landscapers with degrees in hort. and arboriculture such as myself, and i too get angry at the lawnmowing landscape wanna bes. i see a ton of volcanoes on corporate plantings. how much you want to bet it is the same guys that mow the lawns,

What I'm getting out of this thread is the new campaign should be one of consumer education. So rather than fighting with ourselves over issues like topping and the crazy code of conduct we should join with our organizations to either bring a program into school biology/ecology classes or mass media. I'd enjoy seeing my membership dollars being spent on a proper tree care commercial.

Television and print are out of style and somehow more of an internet pressence could be the most cost effective vehicle.

I suppose this isn't a news flash to many of you more involved in the organizations than me. I'm amazed at the level of ignorance and belief in myths involving trees.

The ISA could produce an ad for radio. A lot of stations offer free public service announcements. So the only cost to ISA would be producing a good ad, then they could send it to radio stations everywhere.
