New Ascender from Reg Coates

Thanks for making the investment. The Taiwanese will be grateful too. They are nice people. A humble nation. like a shoal of minnows living next door to Piranas. Living in Canada it's hard to imagine.

Anything thinner than 11.7 will make for a more effective grapple line. I personally like 10mm. Weighs nothing, takes up less space, throws further, less drag and so on. It's also worth remembering that if you can get level or even slightly above your target, you'll get much better accuracy and distance. All the best.
First of all I have no experience with the RC grapple, but I have with a captain. I use 50ft of 8mm beeline spliced at wesspur. It flies and very accurate. I can even throw up and away and land a shot. I will hand the captain on my harness and drag that tail through the canopy like a climbline no probs or I will coil and cinch up close drpending on when next needed. Saying this I will get an RC, to compare. Another tool is always good at my old ass age of 57. Got to work smarter to keep going.

As far as I can tell, growing up around bicycles, fishing gear and climbing equipment, the manufacturing capabilities in taiwan are unparalleled anywhere in the world. Some people might not like hearing that but I am in awe of the stuff that they can do.

One example, the knockoff hitchclimber pulley made by "omega pacific" it pains me to say is better made than the original. Less flop, more precise, smoother action. I wont use one because I appreciate the treemagineers, but I have to admire the handiwork. As with bikes and fishing reels, There are few US companies even in the conversation when it comes to making climbing equipment.

@ClimbingTN try out the Reep Schnur Sirius 10mm that comes with the captain hook etc. It’s pretty faultless, we also uses it in a deployable block and tackle setup. Works in a foot ascender and I have 6mm prussic on it. https://www.mapleleafropes.com/store/category/teufelberger-ocean-vectran
What 6mm cordage do you use? I had thought about finding some 6mm stuff, but have paused the search while working on other stuff.

Edit: wait... is that 6mm ocean? why have I never seen that before? :envidioso

57? Your a young man in the prime of your life bruv. Enjoy it while u can.

Of my two hitch climbers, one is bang on precise and the other has a gap at the biner holes which I questionably used for clearance for a custom mount nut on a rigid tether for an oddball RW I made. Feature not bug! ;)

I wasn’t implying that Taiwan products are inferior. The grapple on initial inspection is very well made. It’s obvious that someone was making sure it was made right. If I’m comparing a Taiwan product to the “Piraña”, the Taiwanese wins every time. I’m going to buy certified life support climbing gear from reputable sources. I won’t buy gear from the Piranha no matter how much cheaper it is. Thanks for your input here on the buzz. Craig BTW new YT subscriber today.

Well it's nice to meet yoy, be that, Virtually, Craig.

I should mention I'm not a prolific youtuber, that is more typical these days. But I do try to select meaningful uploads at least. It's usually something big, complex or informative.

I used it today to get into a very small oak. I needed to clean up the structure before it got too big. I was working in the Hackberry next to it. It’s going to be a great tool. Getting it on a branch not too bad but, turning and jiggling it out is going to take practice. Reg’s video using the foot ascender works great. I was able to go from the top down to keep my weight off the little thing. Thanks to @Reg for a cool tool. CraigIMG_4672.jpeg

Thanks for reporting Craig. I should mention, if you are twisting the rope to get the grapple to turn, but it doesn't seem to be turning, just pull the rope back and forth a little and that should do the trick. Looks like a near perfect day for tree climbing in the photo.
