new 395

My old 394 got stolen too.

So I bought a new one. It cuts just awesomely, very, very fast. But after only about 4 tanks of fuel in it so far, it has a problem. Cold saw, buck 4 or 5 rounds and then it turns off suddenly like it ran out of fuel, and it smells hot when restarting it, but not when its running. It needs choke to restart even though fully warm. And basically this keeps repeating itself until the saw won't even idle long enough to get it to the cut to start cutting.

Gonna bring it back to the dealer in a day or two but thought I would ask the experts here, first. The dealer isn't fantastic, and they don't have a log pile to test cut saws with...

A side question to this thread then is, is it possible to be a good saw mechanic without having wood on site to do test cuts?? Maybe, but I don't see how, myself.

sounds like its running out of fuel , could be the tank vent is not working , the fuel line in the tank is blocking itself off cause they are so long they tip over and resist fuel line , carb set way to lean but get it checked out cause your going to blow the saw up if you already have not done so

Sounds like yet another case of ethanol fuel contamination woe!

Get a couple gallons of 100 octane racing fuel, mix it with stihl's new silver bottled synthetic oil mix, and hold on tight as trigger response comes alive again just like the 70's!

Seriously that ethanol will foul your carb big time.

Is it worth 10 bucks a gallon?

Well yes, I do believe it is, atleast up in the tree where your very life depends on a clean quick cut with no hiccups.

Dealer says it is the tank vent, they've had problems with them. I hope he's right, it would be nice and simple.
