Needing new boots soon.

I had the euro gaffs on mine when I first got them. I didn't like them either. I replaced them with the american-style tree gaffs and it was much better.

As RBJ said, using good pads is key.
I use the good Velcro pads on the old steel buckingham. The pads used to be $100 over 10 years ago, now I see they are $150 a pair. Don’t know if they improved or not. If I work on spikes all day it feels fine. If I wear them on short boots my legs are very uncomfortable and I don’t think I can last more than an hour.

I’m planning to upgrade to the Gecko aluminum “euro” this year.
No need to upgrade from your Bucks. Get some caddy/opsal pads and call it a day. The Buck super wraps with the steel inserts are nice, but there is nothing better than a broken in set of caddy pads. If you are gonna get the Gecko’s make sure your get the DMM version as it is a much better design, and a killer spur. Stear clear of the Euro Trash Gaff!

Since you like taller 16”-18” boots you might as well just stick with it. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Hoffman make some great linesman boot at decent prices. Much better quality than Wesco, and very close to White quality for less $. I have a few buddies who swear by Hoffman’s Dri-line boot, and it sounds like it might be just the ticket for you.
