Need Advice on a Powerscender

So my Powerscender has lost what look like a couple of rivets. Probably happened by rough handling, as these spurs were fine last week and broken now. My question is, can I fix the Powerscender? I have almost no experience with rivets and I’m not even sure if the holes are accessible for the tool. Don’t think screws will work as they will likely interfere with the operation of the cam. I love this thing and would hate to give up on it, but the missing rivets are load bearing so any fix would need to be very solid.

If it’s toast, is there a good alternative? I’ve seen the CT version. Looks odd. Thanks in advance.

Mine just did the same thing. I tried some cheap rivets that failed right away.

Pretty sure there's an old thread that mentions high strength rivets being used

I used screws to repair mine years ago. Works great. I also made a new thicker backing plate. I drilled a hole through the outside rope channel and then through the back of the ropegrab and backing plate. If you make the outer hole slightly larger it allows you to countersink the screw head. It is almost flush and has worked well for longer than the original.

I thought I heard years ago that he was no longer making these. I just assumed he was out of the game.

I’ll probably try to countersink some tiny screws before I bother Mike. Thanks though!

Rivets are pretty simple items as far as I can tell. If they need a head of some type on one side you might well be able to use a machine screw with appropriate head to start. If your replacing a rivet that filled countersunk holes on each side then just the appropriate size round stock will do.

Choose for hardness based on predicted strength needs, copper is easy but doesn't sound right here. Cut to length a little longer than mating items and start methodically tapping with a ballpeen hammer while item is supposed on a solid steel object - usually found on a vise. Once one side is mushroomed over a bit so as to not slip through hole flip over and do similar to other side. Repeat going back and forth till rivet it functionality complete.

Number 8 harness screws may be too hard to peen but I would think standard hardness of a good quality screw or good stainless steel rod would do the trick and be strong enough for the task.

OP said load bearing...? So throwline or glue seem curious to me if that's accurate.

I never got a set of these to know as Mike was done putting them out by the time I requested a set.
