National Geographic's Redwood Trees Issues

Re: National Geographic\'s Redwood Trees Issues

It's the same helmet I used for my headcam when shooting the clips for the Working Climber Series. Got to be the lightest of all the helmets. And yes, ventilation is not one of its good points.

You will not be dsappointed when you watch these dvd's, believe me.

They are full of so much useful info that you'll want to watch them again and again.

Jerry did an outstanding job.

I am sure that I won't be dissapointed. I already have the first series, along with multiple books written by him.

Re: National Geographic\'s Redwood Trees Issues

I received this from my good friend Scott Baker. Like him or not, Steve Sillet is doing some interesting work. And Robert Van Pelt will be there as well. I'm gonna go!

"Hi Friends,

Here’s a pitch for a evening full of awe-inspiring botany, great company, and fine food and drink! Please check out this link for more details and spread the word to folks you think may be interested.

My friend Scott Altenhoff organized this event. It should be a rare opportunity to share the canopy explorers amazing world and hang out with a large group of tree people.

I am going down with Jenise....get your tickets soon I bet this will sell out.

It should a great night of catching up and strengthening connections for future collaborations!

All the best, Scott

It was excellent! But I'd heard Steve's talk at Boise-ISA 2008.

My weekend, however, was more than the talk.

here's the results...sorry, it's a long slide show...Waterfowl, lichened up Oregon white oak, and a way cool waterfall....

I need to redo it, as the file size is too small on many of the shots, so the quality really suffers, as the slide show brings them up quite large..

Re: National Geographic\'s Redwood Trees Issues

Bumping this thread for a couple of things.

Reread the posts and recalled all the commentary and pics from Beranek about older climbs.

Also learned that the National Geographic redwood photo was taken with 3 Canon cameras.

Just learned about that video clip last week.

Got both posters side by side on the fridge, I feel a cali trip coming in the spring...

Re: National Geographic\'s Redwood Trees Issues

Ironic. I just watched a Discovery Channel documentary on the Redwoods last night. For anyone who has a Netflix subscription just type "climb" into the search and you will find it.

In the video they said a much larger percentage of North America was covered in Redwoods until the Iceage. That would have been cool to see! Minnesota Redwoods!? They also said that 95% of the Redwoods have been cut down. I can't stop thinking about all of the beautiful old growth summits that were never achieved!
