If you're looking for half inch line, then you can't go wrong with the Blue Streak (or any of its alternately colored relatives). The Yale XTC lines are quite good as well.

I'll second Blaze with a side order of Smurf gloves :)

True Blue is the prettiest rope on the market and also one of the thickest and heaviest. Didn't Meatloaf say "One out of three isn't bad" ? :)

Just about any sixteen strand half inch will do the job.

A great old standard of general knotting. ABOK still the referance champ. But,the new "Ultimate Encyclopedia of Knots and RopeWork" by Geoffery Budworth is great modern guide with over 1000 glossy pix that about bring it up to a coffee table, conversation piece grade. Mr. Budworth also did editing on latest versions of ABOK as well as instrumental in starting The Intnl. Knot Tyers Guild in England i beleive.
