Classic ir right 26'2" from center to center of the out riggers. I figure 30'2" by the time you set up 4'x4' cribbing if need be.

Sterling is a no frills truck, but this is tree work and I don't need all the bells and whistles.

In my experience Sterling has all the typical minor annoying little things that any Ford does. BUT, the running gear and other important items are rock solid. THEY NEVER RUN RIGHT BUT THEY ALWAYS RUN.

I never know when I get in mine when I sit down if my head will be scraping the ceiling or if I'll be able to see over the hood. The height control on the air ride seat has a mind of its own, and I'm on my second air valve with only 40K miles.

I've learned how to get the drivers door fully latched, just like my Ford pickup, crack the window and give a mighty heave, anything less and it'll rattle.

The latest: where the parking brake valve is in the dash? The mounting holes are cracked out around the cheap plastic because I have been careless enough to, well, push and pull on the valve when setting or releasing the brakes. Just like I abused the seat control by adjusting the height. Fords, gotta love them. Hey they didn't take a Fed buyout anyway.

BTW I was born and raised in Detroit, a Ford town if there ever was one, actually closer to Dearborn, so I get to diss them. Looks like a good crane on there though

Had a good time tearing down a bunch of trees, like I said nice and in the open. Had our highest grossing pay day today.

Found myself retracting the boom cause I was resting my foot on the petal, need to get out of that habit. The crane is extremely strong and found had put more pressure on a couple picks than I would have liked to. Still a learning curve going on.

The LMI computer drove me nuts, intermittly beeping. Just as we finished, I had retracted the boom all the way and the alarm came on and said something like no service. I had to use the override to stow the boom. Not sure what thats all about? Any help there would be greatly apprecciated.

P.S It was a light rain out today and I was the only one that didn't get wet

Just setting up while the crew finished a job around the corner. I'm finding it harder to take any action pictures while in the closed cab. Before at least I could easily jump off the controls to take some shots. Now I'm in a closed cab and want to stay there.

It is still a must to keep the old crane, wouldn't have been able to do this.

I was rushing to make an end of the year purchase. I couldn't make up my mind between a ford chassis and they had two internationals left. We were playing the numbers game a little bit. He had called a couple times saying he needed a decision and I didn't return his call for a couple of hours. When I had made up my mind he told me they had all been sold. I couldn't believe it. Never did he say he had anyone else on the hook. Appairently I wasn't the only person looking for that end of year purchase. It all worked out in the long run because I wouldn't have bought the new crane. We hardly use our other bucket as it is but the cranes go out one or the other almost everyday.

Same thing almost happened with the crane. I had been looking at it for some time. I saw that the price was reduced so I decided to call. The sales rep told me he also had a guy from Texas inquiring about it and was planning to fly out later that week. I wasn't sure if it was bs or not. But I wasn't gonna let it happen twice. I gave him a credit card deposit over the phone to seal the deal.

Later when I was up there to drive it home he said the other guy called to put a deposit down after the rep had called him eariler to tell the guy I was asking about the crane just to be fair to that guy. He wanted to think a little bit about it, when he called he was twenty minutes to late and pissed the rep said. Again could be bs, why do I find it so hard to trust sales guys?

Congrats on the serious fleet!!!

Do you have a dedicated salesman to keep the fleet and men busy, or do you run equipment as well as do sales??

I do most of the sales after work or whenever I can. Lots of long days and nights. I work with the crew daily running just about all the equipment. Every now and then I can leave the crew to do what they have to and do sales.

This year I've been getting some help doing sales from our lead climber. He's even surprised me with his selling ability. He has picked up lots of work of estimates I wouldn't even have gone on. There were times I would have to pick and choose which estimates I went on just because of the time factor. Now between the two of us we rarely miss any, except for the ones you know will just be a total waste of time.

Cameron, how are you unloading your crane? Do you have lifting tongs? Would it be possible to have really long chain chokers and unload all of the logs at once?

I just put the boom up in the air and drive the log truck up next to it and pick them off. I did try one time i had a huge load of small diameter logs to pick off the load at one shot. The crane was struggling and thought something bad was gonna happen. Haven't tried it since but that was also before I purchased the log truck.

I should have asked if you had a grapple truck...

he has it all he's a show off in the hood. I like Cam, too bad he doesn't put the pay out he does in his toys. Nice collection of Tonkas you have. Keep'em low and push'em twice has hard. Them salary tards won't known any better till they get hit with a brick.

No salary tards here Holly. 50-60 hr work weeks, they are smarter than that. Me paying my top guy 65 to 75 k a year, might even be more, including commissions is not to bad if you ask me.
