My "New" Crane

Re: My \"New\" Crane

Thats a nice looking ride CTM, run that thing for a while and you'll have fore arms like Popeye! It sure makes you appreciate the pilto controls on your 38 ton Altec I bet.

Re: My \"New\" Crane

Manitex?? For some reason I thought Altec, good for you. The 2 weeks I ran my buddies 26 ton rear mount Altec (overweight on the rearmost axle, he has to pay extra per mile to travel the interstates) I hated it. The A-frame rear outriggers kept me from several tight setup areas I could have easily done with my 4 down and outs. Worse, once I was in a clear area to setup in, it didn't have the reach/capacity my 22 ton did,(a 900 lb hottub job 80' away was out of its chart, my Manitex 22 101S could have easily done it, better yet by short setting one side of the stabilizers my reach would have only been 25'). The Peterbuilt chassis looks great, but the turning radius is much more then my plain jane Sterling. The idiot lights on the stabilizers (ALL must be down a certain amount or no go)were a pain also. Not to mention no rider seat, I forgot what a pain in the neck it is to operate a stand up rig.
The one thing I really liked I don't have was the full cross locking rear end, I can engage the front axle but not both sides, thats a must for my next rig.

Re: My \"New\" Crane

I'm doing my demonstration of skills test on friday for my Red Seal unlimited weight crane licence.

I've already done my load chart test(100% BTW) and if I pass this operating test I'll just have to do a 200 question test till I have the licence in my hand.

Re: My \"New\" Crane

nice array of cranes...hope you did well on the test...I'll be going for hydralic license this summer/fall. and no, tell your wife there is no such thing as to much time with the equipment. i rebuilt an old hiab model 177 speed loader last summer..cool old crane..

I see the new Tadano 35 ton machine has POWER WINDOWS in the crane cab, we've come a long way!

Re: My \"New\" Crane

Unfortunately the tester couldn't make it to our yard on friday, he was coming from 4 hours away and it was raining too hard where he was, never saw a dark cloud where we were.

But good news he's coming next friday.
