My First Video

Wrong again, if ``arborists`` want to show off, they need to do so with correct techniques. How many newbies look at videos mentioned on TreeBuzz and believe that the videos are correctÉ

That's exactly the point. Look at al the vids showing bad practices and one handing, lack of chainsaw protective clothing, no hard hats...and so on.

If we all just say nothing about it we will suffer a lot of new vids where people just think they are doing just great and acting like a true pro. That can't be wright and I posted some comment about the one handing without trying to offend anyone. The same happened to me when I started out posting vids on some different forums and after some comment I started thinking and altered my working habits. Colleagues I work with all have different habits and some can be dealt with others can't. But when you post something for the whole world to see you get so much advise and comments you start thinking harder and probably next vid will be with smooth actions and two handing :-)

We all do one handing, but it's a big difference if you one hand it all or only in some situations you are aware of it ! Thats a difference in habits and how you roll and that makes our profession safer.

That's just my 2 cents

Climb safe y'all

Show me a bucket operator who doesn't one hand?

And I'll show you the lowest production quotas in the company.

The reality is that production quotas are the distinguishing characteristic separating the pro from an amateur in the real world.

In your world it takes 4 supervisors standing around watching two grunts do the actual work to code.

How about you doing some work for a change Mr Tree and post up some examples of you doin it up to code?

The Buzz would suck without guys like Reg n Roger!

Climbers are natural born show offs mate, deal with it already.

These aren't home videos anymore is the problem. Same respect should be for our image as in a trade magazine. There's no editor (almost) here so some bad work can slip in easily. The best we can do for the public who has more access to this than a trade mag is mention the safety violation by blowing the whistle and calling a foul. How about we stop filming bad work practices? Would that work to make everyone happy?

What sucks is no-nothing idiots such as Jomoco who want Arborists to remain in the dark ages and continue to have extrememly high death rates, injury rates and MSD. Every time a worker is killed Jomoco celebrates that there is a chance for any intrained newbie to be paid nothing, work dangerously, and be proud of it.

mrtree, I know a guy who's been doing this job for about 55 years, not big on safety, don't wear pant, has been caught by a on looker wearing shorts, and hasn't got a cut or gotten someone killed. Luck? don't think so. It's about having skills and the intelligence to use them. People get hurt for not knowing what they are doing, the same reason you did.

Obviously, many of you are not strong enough nor coordinated enough to handle a saw with one hand and that's fine. By all means use two hands because its probably safer for you to do it that way. I can assure you that I have the strength, discipline, and coordination to control a 200T at nearly any angle with either hand and I've been doing the same for 30-some years. Don't presume to tell me that something I can do easily and safely is dangerous just because you lack the ability or confidence to do it yourself. And no, I've never cut myself with a chainsaw. I am safe, I am efficient, and I am very very good at what I do. Thank you very much. Carry on.

Beside the risk of cutting yourself or your rope it's unnessesary repetitive strain as well. I've heard Paul Bunyan had it from swinging his ax. Actually I just made that up. Could be true.

I defy any of you to find just one line clearance bucket operator who doesn't one hand on a regular basis each day?

There's thousands and thousands of em!

Find me just one who believes your blarney please?

jomoco

Not as stunned as the line clearance bucket operators are at how ridiculous implementing your greenhorn advice would be in terms of higher production or safety on the job.

Quit just talkin silly talk and walk the walk for a change.

Show us how it's done Mister!

Work as safe as you can, I'm sure everyone has a couple bad habits to improve. But don't put it on the videos unless it's a spoof or you don't know any better. Put on the safety glasses and do everything proper. The stuff I make sure there are no cameras around for you guys are posing for.

New climber could have easily used two hands but he saw this video and heard one handing upped production. I made that up too. Could be true.

It's one of those things that we do to bring it in on time and on budget that shouldn't be learned from a video. Hint hint. Unless someone's willing to stand behind the official chop and grab training technique video. Didn't think so.

Can we just all agree if one person says don't one hand a saw on a thread then it does not need to be repeated over and over till you want to punch babies in the face! If one says it what difference does it end up making by saying it 20 more times?? Move on.
