Murphy switch on bandit keeps failing

<div class="bbWrapper">I replaced the murphy switch on our 2006 bandit 200 and it ran for 3 days and now the murphy switch is dead again. Any ideas where I should look?</div>

But, talking to someone about &quot;the good old days&quot; they mentioned that a favored auto repair shop 30 years ago used to put only high quality parts in cars and were still plagued with 20 to 25% failure rate on parts.<br /> <br /> He would sometimes remove a known working part from doner vehicle to use in diagnosis.</div>

I&#039;ll pop in it and hope for the best</div>
 
<div class="bbWrapper">Our tattletale was causing our Bandit 250xp to power down. My buddy&#039;s friend removed the switch and now it runs fine. There are seemingly no problems with the chipper now. Is the switch itself the most likely cause of this? It&#039;s a diesel.</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">We had to replace ours probably four times in 9 years. And even then we had to rig a way to hold the button down so the damn thing would run. (And, yes, I know that totally defeats the purpose of the tattletale)<br /> <br /> The wiring was always a messy rat’s nest. Long story short, I’m not certain it came wired correctly from the factory. Anyway, it went to the Bandit dealer last fall for some hydraulic work and we just told them to fix the switch too. And they did. I’m easily confounded and defeated by electrical issues. Every now and then it makes sense to pay someone else to figure it out and actually fix it.</div>

It would come up but the vibration of the machine made the needle bounce like crazy, often bouncing it into the redline, which would trip the murphy.. <br /> It&#039;s there for a reason.... it&#039;s a easy bypass or delete, but can save your shit.</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">I don’t mean to suggest that having a spare and some tools on hand is a bad thing. Just that in my case we could never seem to get the switch to work as it should. It would be fine for a few weeks and then the button would pop for no apparent reason on several switches in a row. Got to the point where we held the button down and just trusted the machine to work (and not overheat). Not ideal. <br /> <br /> So while we could get it running enough to chip, the dealer actually fixed the issue, which I suspect in our case was more than just a bad switch.</div>

No other mechanic-ing can infuriate like gremlin electrical problems. How much time and $ have spent misdiagnosing over the years?</div>

Something happened and to a fuse but they had a wire taped up and tucked away. I&#039;m not sure how they had it working right but perhaps it was a slightly different model??</div>
