Multiple limbs lowered together

That technique (in TreeCo's pic) is in Jer's treework book, and I've been using it ever since I saw it there, instead of tying clove hitches (too slow)...it works great.

clove hitches may be slower but they wont slip out if they spin

A lot of votes against the half-hitch. To each his own. But keep it in mind for the next conifer removal. And, yes, wrap your rope around any irregularity on the limb that will impede slippage.

i have used both setups mentioned, the slings are the best answer, but in a pinch, use clove hitches insted of a round turn. i use this alot on white pines....

oh yeah, if you are going to try the round turn option, warn your ground guys

On weak/ decayed limbs over obstachle/ nice lawn that might come apart; i've maid a series of half hitches down the limb to an anchoring/ final hitch at end.

A few have come apart, and the series of half hitches never did lose a piece. But, when i can; i use other strategy. i've used slings down the run of the limb for same stragegy; but think that the halfs give more firming compression per point and then thru the run compressing limb togehter more/ firming it with the compression; that a sling instead of half wouldn't give in those instances. i've also used slings to safety possible loose/dead limbs to the spar, but adjacent to the run of the line.

I think it is important to note that a half hitch will only hold a limb....or parts of a broken up limb.....if that limb or piece of a limb is tip weighted.

This can be controlled by the climber when rigging limbs that are solid but for limbs that bust apart when cut each half hitched piece is on it's own and the likelihood of each piece breaking so it ends up tip weighted is highly unlikely.

Sling's all the way... found half hitches brake free in a spin, wind or hitting the trunk..three slings and a half hitch timber hitch on point works great..for me
