Re: Mt Shasta dead 175\' Ponderosa removal

Interesting drop. I would have worried about it bouncing funny, possibly back toward the building. My initial impression was that dropping from the ground would have been more predictable. Was the tree growing against the building or building's eave cut to fit the tree? Was the butt log any problem, like having to drop it a different direction than that log, due to the building?

How thick was that big boy?

Any more pics?

Cris Fraser got this shot of the lightning scar from the bucket truck with his 35mm camera.

What looks like an extra flipline is the rope used to attach the saw to the tree while cutting.

The tree wasn't faced properly.
It missed the opening by several feet.
That could be from a long day and being tired.

Wow. Big tree, nice work. Nice view, too!

One question... Why was that horn left on the first half the whole time? Just seems like it would be in the way.

The smaller tree would have ended up across the street if it had been 'hit'. No damage.

The video has been re edited to include several more scenes.

The smaller tree was definately "hit". You can see a branch go flying.

Re: Mt Shasta dead 175\' Ponderosa removal

Wasn't hit dead on...but brushed. If the wood hit the wood of that lil tree it would have exploded.

It sure looks to be every bit of 150.' An extra 25' ain't hard to believe either.

I was wondering why you didn't just drop the whole stick, rather than risk the tip first but back scenario?

It came down tip first too...

Ah, who am I to judge, that was a biggun. Nice job, no one got hurt and nothing was broken.

Hats off to ya.

After looking at the pics of the tree, I noticed blue staining...Pine beetle have at it after the lightning?

Wonder what the airtime on a top from that tree was. Way up there.

Ox, how are you attaching the saw to the tree? Is it just a cinched rope with enough tail to clip to the saw, or how?

Big.
