Mountaineering boots for tree climbing/running

Hi Treebuzz,

I have been wearing red wings and love them, but as of the last few years I have been really wanting some lightweight pruning boots. My red wings have been just fine, but now I have the desire to start running for cardio health and thought that if I could find a pair of mountaineering boots that work good for running trail, it would give me another reason to buy 300 dollar boots.

any suggestions?

you need a shoe for running/exercise and a boot for working. running in boots will make you hate running and so you won do it.

Well Said. I've got a shoe for pruning, a boot for removals and shoes for exercise.

Tanglehorn, mountaineering boots for running trails will just be plain wrong ( too heavy and stiff for running ) and way expensive. Look for a good online running store and pick up some trail running shoes by new balance or asaics. Buy a middle of the range and see if you like that brand and fit, I been running all my life ( just starting back after a torn meniscus, been 16 months of hell ) and you should not go cheap on running shoes. They also wear out after 300 miles but it's a minimalist sport so the shoes are your only big expense. Good luck.

Yea man your body is not really designed to run with heavy weights on your feet. Like Swing said, get into some good running shoes. I have the LaSportiva Pimir and found the break in period very long and at times painful. It runs heavy for this type of work too unless you're doing heavy removals daily. Now that they're broken in, I know full well they'll be through by November. Superfeet insoles btw. I always scrap the stock insoles since boot and shoe companies are not really in the orthotics business.
