Watched some of this last night. Unfortunately seemed like they were highlighting sub par arborists again like Axe Men. Don't know much about redwoods, acceptable to spike them just to prune? Following more standards than others but still showing us in a negative light it seems. Old gear, old techniques. Wondering why the WY guy in Axe Men, or any of them, doesn't get an OSHA visit. Displaying to all their lack of basic safety knowledge.

I watched it too and they were definitely using outdated rough looking gear. I went to yosemite this year and from what I learned the trees have really thick bark because many need fire to open their cones so my guess was they were fine in that light.

I also think if a guy is scared to climb 50' he shouldn't really be climbing because he won't be thinking clearly. I did like that it shows how tough our jobs really are though.

I do mostly pruning and stuff so I don't get the luxury of using spikes very often.

Now those cave guys were going hardcore. 90ft free hanging ascents.

$150K!?!? My wife is packing my bag and ready to ship me out.

I wonder about his body position and lack of adjusting his lanyard. The equipment and approach is definitely outdated. That the redwood has thick enough bark is still not valid.

$160 grand for the caver, he can have it. I'm not much for crawling around in tight spaces, more for swinging around in open space. I was disappointed in the lack of modern gear and practices with the arborists. That being said, I can't wait to see the next episode. That guy in Axe men is an idiot. Kinda makes me a little less proud of what I do for a living. By the way, didn't the TCIA somehow get that other tree show (can't remember the name now)shut down a few years back for not following safe practices and putting a bad rap on the industry

And the show that followed that nightmare. Or maybe it was just bad ratings.... or was it that the cast eventually ended up in detox or behind bars for parole violations..... Can't seem to remember....

We sent a letter, email, to History Channel. Along the lines of what they are trying to represent and what they actually have on TV. Feeding off idiocy and trying to get ratings. I understand but really puts us in a bad light. Did I say the WY guys are....oh well. Back to working in the snow today.

I just finished watching the series - hyped stuff not a show of substance but marginally better than axeman , sorry can't watch that show way too cringeworthy.
still better than the episode of big bad wood but am concerned about the mishmash of equipment the tree company was using - seemed very ad hoc not what I would expect if you were showcasing your company on national television.

Hey folks. If you still think that "reality tv" has any bit of reality in it please check to see if your hand is bigger than your face. All these shows have bottom barrel producers that twist, distort, stage, then edit scenarios so people will want to watch it. Everything on that show is purposely bogus. Same for big bad wood. I personally give these guys a mulligan on the show antics since everything is pre-planned and laid out.
