@moss - can this be cinched up remotely, as in, from a distance? With or without the "quick release"? Sure be great features.
You know the Fig8 has aided in a lot of innovation! Rope Wrench's beginnings...etc.
Nicely done Moss. I like the idea a lot.
I gotta go start messing around with a F8 to see if I can come out with the next revolutionary idea...next as in after yours of course.
No, can't be cinched remotely, if you'd want to install it remotely you'd flip it over a limb and set it as a doubled lanyard. When I currently set a cinched lanyard with a carabiner I'm not setting it remotely. The way I use lanyards primarily is for positioning or a life support setting while advancing my main rope, my lanyards are in the range of 15' long, most of my positioning settings are within arm's reach.

Got it. Mine is also 15' though I often wish it was shorter, until I don't. There's probably a way to carry and use it doubled up (7.5') then extended to single length when needed, of which I'm just unaware. No, can't be cinched remotely, if you'd want to install it remotely you'd flip it over a limb and set it as a doubled lanyard. Thanks
My 3 strand is so stiff it makes a lousy daisy chain even single but a nice lanyard in other respects. Many things a compromise I suppose.I double it, then daisy chain it, 15’ turns into about a foot and a half. But when you’re in the middle of things managing the tail of your main rope and lanyard is a fact of life.

My last design wouldn't allow retrieving, so changed it slightly by replacing the spurs with something cone shaped.

Would it be an improvement to have a round bulb over the cone to eliminate sharp edge contact with the rope, provide easier retrieval and keep debris out of the the cone?My last design wouldn't allow retrieving, so changed it slightly by replacing the spurs with something cone shaped.

One thing to keep in mind is that it does not necessarily follow that the best design for use happens to also be the most economical to produce, if one is contemplating these being made in any numbers. The cheapest, quickest, and strongest way these could be made is to be CNC milled out of say 3/8 or 1/2 inch aluminium plate. If a round cone, whether semi-hollow or with a round cap, is added to the shape, the cost of making these would be dramatically more.
That blue one, a tent rope tightener I gather?, looks like it might serve as a decent mechanism for an adjustable chain saw lanyard as is...Another thought is two small rings welded with two pieces of round bar bridging them together. This could create a middle opening, which one could lock the girth with a carabiner, or install a pulley biner with a retrieval line or, or, or
Much like a smaller symmetrical version of this

Dude, Moss is looking to fabricate a devise similar to a figure 8. Read the thread it’s on topic. The blue item pictured is a tarp/tent tensioner, I have a couple on my Warbonnet Superfly tarp. The brand name is Loop Alien but cheap knock offs abound on ebay.
Now back to lanyard innovation.....
