modifying a saw

i want to tear down my 338 this winter and port the jug and tweak it out. does anyone know where i can find any info on exactially how its done or know of any pro's who mod alot of trimsaws? i'm assuming i will need to re-jet my carb to make the most of porting it. any and all info is much appreciated.... thanks guys

Waste of time to mod a clamshell designed saw. The gains will be minimal. I had a ported one that was a dog. (and a Walkerized 335, from 2002. All you need is to add a 9/16th ID port to the muffler, retune the carb and gain about 30% in pwer/speed.

I know of no other ported Husky climb saws, and of only 3 200T that have been done. That saw will benefit, but why spend the time. It's plenty fast stock with just the screen removed.

what exactly do you mean by clamshell design? mine is a 338 cali, its a 45cc saw but it doesen't have the power that it should. its a great saw but it cuts more like a 200t, which is good but with 10cc over a 200 it should cut alot better. i wonder if it would benifit more from a port job cause it is a cali saw and has been designed to meet cali emission rules. does anyone know what they did different to meet emission rules. they did not put a cat in the exhaust i know that for sure. im just trying to bring it up to its full potential. i do alot of takedowns of dead oaks and larger trees so the extra power would help.

The crankshaft is enclosed by the crankcase and jug, right in the middle. So, that clamshell (half round) end of the mating surfaces precludes decking of the cylinder to increase comopression and reduce the squish band.

The Cali versions have the same size ports, carb, and muffler as the 35 and 38 cc saws. Thus, in bone stock form, they run and sound like detuned saws. Even muffler modded, my 335 Cali is not as fast as my 2139T (same as 338)
