I have posted all of my pictures from the last climb on my flickr account. Feel free to copy them if you like.

Can't find a way to copy them Ryan...unless I am doing something wrong?

So when is the next one? I liked the place that we were at last time. Anywhere along the border. I still have my buddies at UW Stout. I can do some weekends in October possibly.

Hey is anyone up for a climb in the near future? I will climb rain, sleet, or snow. I found three 80'-100' Eastern Cottonwoods at the bottom of a park near my place in West Saint Paul. They are beautiful! I got 65' up into one right before a windstorm hit that forced me to rappel down. I would love to revisit these trees with some climbing partners.

Also, I'm hoping to meet some guys that would be up for some canopy camping. Within the next couple weeks I will be doing an overnighter of hiking into the woods, climbing a tree, then setting up camp in the canopy. Here are two pictures of my campsite from the last trip by Cannon River:

I have yet to find anyone willing to join me. All you need is a portaledge or a traditional hammock (I made mine for $20 in 15 minutes, seriously). Speak up if you are interested, I have extra backpacking gear to lend out if that is the only thing stopping you.

In the summer I use a 20"x36" piece of a Thermarest Ridgerest and in the fall I use an uncut XL Ridgerest. I slept a night in below freezing temperatures with just the XL pad and stayed perfectly warm. In below zero temperatures I always use a tarp on the ground but I may give the hammock a try this season just to see if I can stay warm.

I originally wanted to by a Hennessy hammock but I found a "make your own hammock" tutorial on another tree climb forum and I am quite satisfied with my cheapo DIY hammock.

I'm down for a climb. I found a cottonwood down by me that we climbed and did a rough measurement on with my rope and it was over 120ft. I want to go back with my tape and get the exact footage and register it with the DNR. I'm thinking maybe the 22nd.

I dont believe it!? Not to sound wierd but I am jumping out of my chair at the idea of climbing such a tall tree. Relative to most of you on this forum I am new to treeclimbing (although I am a long time rock climber) and when I read that 180' white pines used to exist in MN but were harvested into extiction I assumed that I would never climb above the 100' mark until I was able to afford a climbing trip out west. So to have the chance to climb such a tall tree is flipping awesome. What time were you thinking of climbing on the 22nd?

I might be able to do it later in the afternoon. I got roped into Trimming for my brother in law in Bloomington, and I'm not sure how long it is going to take I have not seen the tree.

I am scheduled to work until 7p in Lakeville that day although I am usually off by 5p. The next day (Sunday 23rd) I am done working at 2p and was planning on canopy camping down south but I would much rather join you guys to climb a possible record breaking MN tree.

Plus, I am sure that I would learn a lot from you guys considering most of my techniques are rockclimbing oriented.

Sunday afternoon is getting a bit late for me. By the time we'd meet, only a couple hours till dusk.

Same thing Sat. If we can't start early, it usually won't work for me unless it's right here in the Cities.
