Minimum length of eye & eye 16 strand lanyard?

Tried my first 16 strand splice w/ Arbormaster, got hung up in the cover/core crossover and decided to send the six splices out to WesSpur's splicer. I want one 48" eye & eye lanyard. The splicer called saying they can't do shorter than 72". The 48" lanyard was to go from harness to Unicender allowing operation of Unicender w/ full arm reach. Now, I can use a prusik on the lanyard to shorten up but don't like a big loop hanging in my way.
I called Samson and Dave said the minimum was 60" which agrees w/ about twice the 28" per eye their manual requires.
Is this a function of needing maximum crossover for load bearing? Yes I do want to stick w/ Arbormaster to get the 810 WLL but don't want to lose strength w/ knots.

Cliff,
This is one of those gray areas. If I am not mistaken shorter ones can be made as they are done in ring to ring friction saver applications. It's not something that the manufactures have approved I believe but as from testing I believe the testing is there but it's a gray area non the less.

Arbormaster is not rated at 8100 lbs when spliced only 6300lbs which is still plenty strong. Give john at Knot and Rope a call. I've seen friction savers as shot as 3 ft made of 16 strand.

Get some stuff broken. Knot and Rope supply will do it. Go as short as you want but talk to them about eye size for testing. Let us know what you find out, I've been wondering this same thing for a while.

Well...the splicer called and splicing Arbormaster causes a de-rating to 630 WLL just like TimberJack sez. I gave the go order; but, Sean @ WesSpur said I could just make up just almost any length lanyard out of 1/2" Tenex-Tec, splice it myself and keep most of the breaking strength which is a lot higher than Arbormaster. Sounds like fun! so I ordered Tenex.
I'll still pursue the fabrication and break testing of short Arbormaster lanyards through Knot and Rope Supply.
