Matt Cornell Rope Saddle

French bowline with a long tail for a tautline or Blake's hitch=emergency saddle. Not any fun at all. Everyone should try one once in a while to keep us humble.
I'm referring to an actual saddle from just a length of rope. I think the military also teaches it in basic training. Ounce around the waist, down through the crotch towards rear, around the outside of thigh, through the crotch rope, and finish excess rope around waist with a square knot. Or something like that ....

I use a breakaway from buckingham set close to my saw....hate my saw dangling low...with the way I have it and the shembiner it is a one hand on /off....View attachment 38093
Hey swing, I just used the same lanyard for a full day for the first time ever. I'm starting to like it. Got aggravated a couple of times when I was moving through the canopy and it got wrapped around my gear some, but I'm getting used to it. I'm still using that ladder snap for the big saws though.

I've run two bridges on the mcrs. Better for two set systems. I had to run two on one bridge this week, forgetting to install the second bridge. I'll remember next time!

How about the suspenders?
Yes in this scenario with one bridge the two systems can pull in opposite directions causing some serious torsion..and twisting....of said bridge ..feels awful

A pirate from Rock Exotica is a neater alternative for big saws.....

Why would you want to? It already has lower attachment points at the leg pad connection that can be used as well as the hip rings. I don't see an advantage there.

I was just curious. It looks like the rings are large enough to use beside the bridge knots. I will find out in a few days. That sale helped me decide to upgrade from my cougar. (y)

Got a TM in my cart, any last minute campaigning? Just don't seem like there's been enough positive feedback yet to make me throw my money at it just yet.

I didn't try it on but held an mcrs, not impressive to me. I'm in love with my TM.

I want to want to like it. Like you, haven't put it on, but only held it. Just too much tried and true love for a TM to ignore.

I do like that it has a belt with holes instead of slide adjust on the waist belt. Suppose I could buy it and sell if I didn't like it....

I never rode a TM but swingdude has some serious hours in them. I for one am most pleased of the MCRS. Rugged, multi adjustable and, rebuild-able. This saddle is very independent in maneuverability, and freedom of movement.

As for my experience with gear purchases the only way to really know if it will suit your style is to buy one and give it a good go...there is always treebay...reviews never give a great picture...because our styles and needs are so different...

French bowline and bowline on a bight do the same thing, create a butt strap saddle. My arboriculture class at Penn State in the '70s taught the B on a B technique and your first ascent into a tree was with one. Digs in like an SOB! Have had to use it a few times in the 40 years since then, and never any fun. I really have respect for the old timers who worked every day on one

I have a MCRS and on the fence still but one thing I can say for certain is the adjustability and ruggedness is super! I am just struggling getting even weight distribution between legs and back. It is spot on as far mobility once it breaks it it conforms great. I am very tempted to purchase a TM next time they go on sale so I can compare them both!

It's an awesome feeling when you can eye down a ton of gear in your arsenal.

Ok I need help I have tightened up the legs straps and they still seem to find their way to my nuts. Painfully there might I add. There has got to be a way to fix this. I have shorted the bridge a bit but have no idea how to get a little better balance between legs and back pull. I seem to get nut crush or nothing. If I can't get this thing dialed in I am going to have to own a TM just so I can compare.

Sorry for your troubles, Magnum. I'm afraid that I can only offer tips but no real answers. The three main adjustments, leg pad tightness, adjusted bridge length and the length of the waist belt rope side loops from the side Ds/rings all work together and any change in one can totally change how the harness behaves. For instance, changing the rope bridge length will change much more than just how close your friction device sits. It will change side to side roll and the location of the leg pad support.

Because we are all so different I can't see any other way than just "experimenting" until the right combination is reached. But understand that a small adjustment in any one of those areas, might make things work.
