Matt Cornell Rope Saddle

That's exactly how the MCRS came about. Matt found an old Kuemmerling rope saddle and began to rework it. You are climbing in the result. I'd like to visit single jack and copy his mods. Easier for us old farts to get into the thing.
and that thing was damn sexy too. Loved all the leather tooling

I thinks everybody pretty much knows how I feel about the whole thing so I wont open old wounds. I'm sad mine just doesn't fit me anymore. It was the best saddle I've owned. I hung on to it just incase. Unfortunately its adjustability is limited by the belt sizes. Cant make a size 2 belt any smaller. Last grommet for the belt and it still rides up terrible. No adjustment is gonna help that. I have all the spare parts though. Bought up some bridges and rebuild kits before treeshit killed it for good. Funny thing is Matt had a new version ready to go into production. It was heads and tails improved over the ones out there on the market.

Well if nothing else ... congratulations on the weight loss !

Any insights you care to share into the improvements that Matt came up with on the never to be, new version?

So I assume I am completely on my own for any rebuild parts, not that it needs anything yet?

Being the charitable humanitarian that I am, I would be willing to take your MCRS off your hands so you would never have to worry about rebuilds the future. Its the least I could do, so theres really no need to thanks me!
Your skinny ass wouldn't fit it. Show up at geezers and I'll prove it.

Yes you are on your own. Sherrill and treeshit committed to keep the rebuild parts in stock but you all know they have taken up with selling things they don't actually have. Basically everything was beefier and reinforced. All the loops had copper grommets on them. Belt loops were thicker leather, couple different rings sewn in on the belt. Hard to actually remember, it's been about 4 or 5 years.

Well that just sucks. Like the original Kuemmerling saddle, I really don't see where most of the rope on this saddle needs replacing except the bridge. I always questioned the 275# weight limit though. Geared up I am probably 50# or so over that and have had no issues.

If I ever feel the need for a new saddle though, I think I'll go with a MonkeyBeaver. I imagine August and New Tribe could make me a custom deal with non-rusting connectors and such. Also custom distance between the hip "D" rings.

I own all 3, and feel that the MCRS and the TreeMo have more in common than the MB does with the other 2. For me, both the MCRS and the TreeMo sit on my hips in a very similar way, and have a range of motion that is pretty tough to beat. The MB is a killer saddle, but has a different feel. Better or worse? Thats in the eye of the beholder.

I agree, Rico. This type of saddle has almost infinite adjustability and what can be done within the design, as JB has shown, has only been scratched. Pulling it off the market was a super boneheaded move.

If somebody doesn't do it soon I'm gonna have a custom one built for me. I am very fortunate in that there is a world-class horse saddle maker that just happens to live in my hood. He has already looked at the MCRS, and felt it would be very easy to copy the design exactly, but make it even more bulletproof, as far as the construction goes. Add rated rings with some spliced rope and Im off and running..

Hey, rico! Maybe you could talk to someone on this forum, and get contact info for Matt Cornell, and put him in touch with the saddle maker that you speak of. Maybe they could include Matt in the profit on the production of a new run of MCRS's, in a way that seems fair to both parties. In that way, the saddle maker would have the benefit of all of Matt's ideas regarding the perfection of his saddle, and they would also open up an entirely new market segment for their business, namely arborists. It sounds like it might be a match made in heaven. If TreeStuff and SherrillTree won't carry the new saddle, they could talk to Wesspur or some other advertiser on this forum, or market it directly, themselves. Win-win, maybe. Just a thought. This would reward the original, recent innovator, if he is willing to jump back into it.

Tim
