Manual for WC 612 Also an electrical question

Hi all,
I'm new here. Found this forum while looking up info on my WC 612. I'd like to get a manual for it, if I can. But, in the mean time, I went to use it for the first time this year. Started up like it always does but died after a few seconds. Initially thought it acted like it was fuel starved. I put some fresh gas in the tanks and tried again. This time the solenoid just clicked. I checked the battery voltage (jumper cables attached) and it was 13.5 volts or so at the starter. I'm wondering if the safety lockout button is the culprit or a solenoid is bad. It is clicking behind the dash. Anyone had this problem? Anyone have a part number and source for the solenoid? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the murphy switch is bad, or one of the functions that it monitors is kicking it out (oil pressure, water temp) From your post its hard to tell, have you used this machine before or is it new to you? Do you get a reading from the gauges before the engine dies?

I've had this machine for about 5 years. I use it in the spring and fall most years. The gauges become engaged when I turn on the key, battery charge level shows just into the green for battery strength. When I push the safety button the battery level drops a touch. Is the safety switch (two hands needed for starting) called a murphy switch? Thanks for your reply!

As Merle said, your safety switch is most likely a murphy switch and it prevents you from being able to run the engine without the proper oil pressure. Holding the switch down for a moment after starting bypasses that switch until your engine can build pressure and run as normal.

Knowing that you've had this machine for 5 years helps eliminate a chance if operator error in the starting process. I would first check the easy things: fluid levels, change the oil filter if it's not been done recently and see what your oil gauge reads as your trying to start it. After that if it all checks out I would check your wiring harness for a broken/disconnected wire. Particularly one that is tied into that Murphy switch.

Has any work recently been done to this machine? Often times when a new problem presents itself after recently working on it, it is related to the work that was completed.

If I am remembering correctly, when I try and start the engine without the safety switch pressed it will still turn over, just not start. I'm going to do an oil change and regular maintenance today if the rain stops. I'll dig into the wiring and see if there are any loose connections etc.

Any ideas on finding a manual for this machine?

Thank you for the replies!

Just general FYI, the Murphy switch is also sometimes called a “tattletale” switch. (That might be a name brand?)

We’ve had issues with our Murphy and solenoid recently as well, but on a Bandit. It is usually possible to override the Murphy temporarily with a few pieces of duct tape. If it’s just a bad switch, no harm. But if the switch is functional it’s trying to tell you something. Electrical issues suck. We just replaced both components for about $85. Sometimes easier than tracing the issue.
