Maine climber killed in accident

I saw August post screw ups in a video.

If you screw up a lot, it gives more opportunities to post screw ups.

From seeing the caliber of Reg's work, and his ability to work solo, I think he avoids having a lot to show.
True, but you can learn a lot from other people's screw ups. Reg's videos are my favorite, but there is something to be said for watching less experienced people.

The one thing Jacob does that I like is he shows you when he screws up. Like the video of him cutting his own climb line.
You won't find that on August's site or Reg's site. They won't post their screw ups. Only the things that go perfectly well. Jacob is a goofball for sure, but he records reality, not Hollywood content.
No way can we put Guilty in the same sentence as Reg Coates. That is like comparing Bo Jackson to Emmit Smith. Hell maybe worse. Reg is an arb of the highest caliber, and the other some youtube wannabe, whose content is quite mediocre. Fuck up enough and it's lights out in this industry.

It's not even that he screws up what seems like a lot for a professional especially one who pushes their presence, I make my share of mistakes as well last one I face cut a little off angle and the top 5 ft got the fence. There's somethingto learn from others mistakes pretty much the point of the this section of the forum at least for me.
He just seems extremely dramatic and kind of annoying.

Yeah, I was not comparing him Reg in terms of expertise, just interested in things he does that others don't show. And remember, Reg was not always as good as he is today. He started out like Jacob and has had 30 some stiches put in his chest from a saw. Jacob is just a kid trying to get where August is one day. I give him credit for trying and sharing his adventures. I just wish his voice would crack and become adult sounding one day. :)

I have a hard time listening to him talk because his brain sounds so scattered, unfocused and not confident. It always sounds like he's apologizing for something. I like to learn from mistakes too though, mine and other peoples'.

One thing I like about you @Njdelaney is how eloquently you express yourself. Always keeping another's dignity in place without losing essence of truth. You hit the nail on the head. I am not bad but tend to come off sounding harsh. Not my intention normally.

Guilty has already almost killed himself and is another accident waiting to happen. You would think after his friend Jed was killed last year, he would be a little smarter, but not with the shit that I have seen him post.

Reg, is a true pro and continues to impress me with his work.

I think he's stretched himself too thin starting multiple businesses and trying to maintain a lot of activity on YT, all at the same time.

That whole crew are self indulging cowboys. He certainly talks more and faster the less confident he gets. Not unlike a certain politician..

For the most part YouTube is a cesspool of bad to mediocre tree work where chasing stardom and a paycheck is much more important than building a solid well rounded skillset..Reg is a breath of fresh air in YouTube's cloud of filthy smog...

Agreed. Most of the YT content I see is crap and an accident waiting to happen.

There isn't really money in from youtube videos themselves anymore, it's now just a platform to get an audience, then turn that into money by selling merch on your own. That or just building up internet clout for ego boosting reasons.

I do watch some tree guys stuff on youtube, but I'd rather see something that is a skill I don't have so I can learn, or see a tool in action and decide if that's something I want to add to my kit as well. When it's just 'content' and another boring video like the 20 before it, big yawn. Obviously we all know Reg is a master of the craft, and his videos are about the only ones I watch in full. That's because it's just nice to watch someone that good, same as a pro athlete on the field, and especially since he's so close to me and works in about the same trees, I can apply much of what he does to my own work.

I do not work in such trees. But I just find Reg's persona and work ethic to be Legend status. We have talked in length over the years. He is just a refreshing presence in an ego driven profession. The man just knows hard graft and makes things just look so smooth. I could go on. But you folk know what I am getting at.

Reg does make great vids.

He knows how to get good shots, cuts out the boring cutting parts and, most important at some level is to showcase proper skills. Rarely does he one-hand or have other sketchy practices. If a person is alleging to have educational videos make them.

The sloppy skills of some video makers is terrible. They don't make any effort to edit or follow good practices

Those videos become entertainment not EDUcational
