Maasdam Slipping

I recently bought a Maasdam and I already have 150ft of 12-strand that I have no other use for. It is 1/2" and I'm wondering if it will work. I would rather not buy more rope if this will suffice. This is something I will probably use twice a year I'm guessing. Any thoughts?
Give it a try, it may work. Some 12 strands are purported to work well with the Maasdam.

I've run yale Buzzline through mine a couple times and it worked fine. I usually run promaster 3 strand though.

I've used 1/2in Yale XTC 12 strand through mine without any issue. It slips earlier than 3 strand but works fine.

Dave, getting someone to pull on the running end will help with that until the rope gets a little use.

Yes that's the solution.

I've also noticed slippage with worn ropes under a lot of tension. When i'm pulling over something with a good lean in the opposite direction I have someone mind the running end.
Yes, I work alone so my left hand is always pulling the tail backward while I crank with my right hand. If I don't restrain the rope, it tends to slip. And I never walk away from it without tying the tail back onto the winch body. Sometimes I also attach a progress-capture prussic for added security. (Using N.E. Blue Fleck 9/16", which I was able to find at Bartlett.)

Ditch the hard-lay three strand, stick with the soft lay, Pro-Master 3-strand, works so much better in the Maasdam...

I run mine with a 25ft piece of Pro-Master, with a spliced end and an eye-to-eye prusik to connect it to the pulling line, same way you work with a fiddle block. Works great.
