First, I avoid WalMart like the plague, and try to avoid Made in China (it ain't easy).
Second, I am not happy with the idea of raising gas taxes, but I'm also not happy with the idea of driving petrol-based vehicles until the bitter end, then wondering what to do next. I was a Boy Scout; Be Prepared!
Third, I can see you've never been to Texas. Despite the high percentage of Texas "Communists" on this site, most Texans have never seen a patch of ground they wouldn't like to pave over. Preferably so they can put up a Super WalMart.
As for the truck drivers, I see your point. I like the toll road idea better than most people; if you move somewhere there aren't highways, then demand highways, I think you should pay for them (well, really, I think you should suck it up and do without, but in TX that's not the way we do things. We build more roads). But a gas tax makes people think twice before driving on seven short trips because they are too stupid to plan out the day and do it in one. The commercial drivers will feel the pinch in the short term, but in the long term, they will pass the costs along to consumers.
It's easy to bitch about today, but I'm trying to look toward tomorrow.
