MA REC CLIMB DEC. 4th

Hell, why don't we just camp out, LOL Ok, no time for that, but like the warming fire idea, after Iraq, I love the heat even more, but I'm ok wwith the cold, I'm more concerned about having all the rright gear to work with, hate borrowing, LOL Also just got my new weaver Cougar saddle too. Probably be doing a lot of tinkering.

Camping sounds good but no can do for this one. What's a good time to meet to give people time to get there? I'm thinking 10:00 AM, how does that work for people coming in from Western Mass. and Connecticut?

If there's a breakfast spot in the general area I'd go for that too, get there earlier, fuel up and go climb at 10:00

It should take me a little under 2 hours, planning on leaving around 6 or so, hit up some grub. Moss I'll send you a PM with gear I have so you ca let me know what else I may need, if I can get it.

Oh jeez, I've got a kids bday party to attend, but may be able to sneak out for a bit before hand, would love to get the info from you hesanarborist, I'm just off 122 in Orange down the road from Orange Saws.

Should have just bombed the chunks into the bed of the truck, whats the worst that could happen?

hahhahaha, just kidding. Nice work

There isn't much for places to eat in my area, I would plan on getting something before you show up. Plan is to meet at my house for around 10am and drive the mile to the site. There is some parking near the site but it would be better to car pool from my house, less cars = less suspicion.... not that we really have anything to worry about.

Sounds good, looking forward to it. Assuming you'll PM your location to everyone who's expressed interest. Thanks again for hosting!

I'll bring a laser rangefinder and clinometer to demonstrate very accurate (and quick) ground-based tree measuring techniques used by the Eastern Native Tree Society (ENTS) and PNW canopy researchers, if folks are interested.
-Andrew

I think I have PMed everyone who showed interest, speak up if I have missed anyone... I'm very excited, did a cable job yesterday in a huge silver maple where SRT would have been perfect. I chickened out though and went ddrt. But I did get to fly my new tengu for serval hours...cabling in the tengu vs my butterfly II = happiness

Guess this is for moss? I have a guy who wants to learn to climb, has no gear at all. I have an extra saddle, but it's the basic Weaver 4-Dee cotton saddle. It's in good shape, and should fit him fine. He's a bigger guy, not over weight, goes to gym a lot, something like 270#? Anyways he's interested in going, but not sure if I/ we can gather enough stuff for him to try, and if you guys are willing. he's completely raw, but eager. I have plenty of webbing, a decent amount of biners, an extra petzl hand ascender ( unles I will need both of mine ) I'm wondering if we can get him set up with rope, and whatever else he may need to learn??? I told him I'd feel it out, let me know.

I want to focus on working with the experienced climbers so they can try different SRT systems or refine their existing SRT skills. Putting a new climber on a 1:1 system requires one-on-one coaching which will detract from what we can accomplish with a group of experienced climbers who can make a lot of progress in a short time working on SRT.

If he's ok with being more in observation mode that would work. Maybe put him on a Blake's Hitch/DdRT system, keep it simple, no gear changes to descend etc. I have all the gear, saddle, rope etc. for him to do that.
-Andrew

Ok, I'll let him know, I was kind of leaning that way too, but I didn't want to tell him no without looking into it, I'll see how he feels about it. Thanks Moss

Only a day and few hours away, weather looks favorable and i'm estimating 6-8 climbers. After friday morning I will not have access to a computer so if the climbers that are going have questions please call me with the number I provided. If you are seeing this last minute and want to join us please contact moss for information.

I'll be bringing the Kevin Bingham "Singing Tree Rope Wrench" to test out on Saturday. This is Kevin's innovative rope tool that allows a climber to descend SRT on a hitch.
