luminescent wood?

Hey,
I have a mystery to be solved:
I was on the shore of Lake Michigan late at night and stumbled upon a piece of wood. I noticed that it was a lot brighter than other pieces in the moon light and picked it up. To my surprise, the wood was emitting green light!

I had no idea what to think besides that maybe there is some kind of luminescent fungus.

Has anyone else run into this or know what the cause is? Perhaps a piece of wood from some other planet that hitchhiked a meteor?!

Phosphorous. That wood was probably phosphorescent not luminescent. In the summer here at the ocean when the waves crash on shore you can see littles green lights it is phosphorous in the algae.
