lovin' my helmet today

lovin\' my helmet today

I was helping a buddy clean up some dead pines today. He's like why the hard hat your not at work. Dude I don't work with out chaps or a helmet it dosn't matter were or what I'm doing. About 20 min. later pulling over a tree, a limb broke out not very big but big enough to make a nice crack on top of my helmet. See man thats why if I did not have it on we would on the way for stiches, now do you want to wear my extra one now? he couldn't say yes fast enough. Thank you pacifaca for no stiches today.
Be safe scotty

Re: lovin\' my helmet today

I know what you are talking about! I sometimes feel like when I am hiking I should be wearing my helmet, just because I am in the woods, and anything could fall on you, at any time.

Glad you had the good sense to follow your instincts and always be safe!

Re: lovin\' my helmet today

A guy i worked with back in the early eighties, lost his friend simply because he wasn't wearing a hardhat. His friend was felling lg. trees and a small 2.5 inch dead branch broke out and speared his head. Very sad story but it shows how a simple piece of safety gear is critical!!! Glad to hear you had yours scotty!

Re: lovin\' my helmet today

Sctty,

Great news!

Can you post a picture of the helmet and limb? Having real-life testimonials like this has a more powerful meaning during a safety discussion.

Re: lovin\' my helmet today

Hey Scotty, Let me know when you get the photo. I can think of about a dozen tree services in my area that need incentives to wear helmets. Then again these people are so stuborn they might not even care.

Re: lovin\' my helmet today

A friend of mine from '91 who's never worn a hard hat. One of his employees was very recently smashed in the back while standing under a load they were roping. The limb broke his shoulder blade but because it wasn't a head injury my friend STILL can't see the value of a brain bucket. MADDENING I tell you.

Re: lovin\' my helmet today

It's the only way to be, laugh all you want at me, I don't care. I want to go home without a stop at the ER.We take enough risk everyday as humans just driveing or walking across the street to the store, not to do what you can, to stop the things you can. The big guy(not you mark) the one up stairs has watched my back to much when I ddin't know any beter. I have learned from my mistakes and try to teach that to everyone I can. I can only make you do it when you work for me.
Be safe Scotty
