Lost my axe

I expect the SVST files to be for "med-coarse" work.
I too, am a BIG fan of DMT diamond sharpening systems. I have used them for more the 25 years for kitchen & utility knives.

Maybe not so steep $$$, if they do a great, efficient job; and last longer then a Nickelson ? ? ?
 
I bought the WEN bench sharpener. Works well and is about a 1/4 the price of the Tormek. Might not be as heavy duty but I'm not a heavy duty sort of fellow. Don't use it for my axe though, just blades.
Going to order one of those files for the axe. It's due for a dressing.

haha i know :) it‘s an older model. i mostly just freehand stuff, it‘s nice to never have to worry about overheating the edge but the wheel is a little bit small for my liking (it is the larger model)

Why don't you use it to sharpen your axe ?
If money were no object, would you, or anyone else, recomend a different system ? Tormek looks pretty good to me.

My grandparents, and & mother, lived in New Hampshire on 500 acres of woods & farm.
As a kid back in the 1950's, my grandfather had died, but he left a manual wet stone sharpener w/ a wheel that was ~ 30" OD. don't know what happened to it. :cry:

Poor girl must have about given up hope of being found. I think I will treat her handle to a new coat of oil tonight. All is right with the world. :)

I don't use my WEN to sharpen my axe because it usually takes a bit of doing to remove enough metal with a slow moving wheel to dress an axe. A file is much quicker to bring it back to life. Knives are a different story.

yes, one of those would be nice :)

there are belt grinders that supposedly run very cool, they look interesting to me: useful for general metalwork, no hollow bevel, no water.

but i am content with my tormek, i use it alot for grinding a new bevel (abused chisels…) and i enjoy the quietness of it.
i use it as a grinder and than switch over to dmt stones/polishing. tormek advertises them as a sharpening system but that never worked for me.
