Looking into New Rope?

I'm looking to replace my Poison Ivy soon. What rope and hitch chord are you using these days? It seems like the sewn eye is taking over, is it really safer than the less bulky spliced eye? Lastly, what length rope do you prefer in the east? Thanks!

I’m climbing on Blue Craze, with 8mm Arbor Prus, VT with my Rope Wrench, or Distel for ddrt on the crane. Spliced eye, not sewn, so it will slide through the rings on the crane attachment.

I don’t believe a seen eye is stronger, if any true opposite is true. Sewn eyes are popular because they’re quicker and cheaper for the big companies to make than spliced eyes.

Around here, in eastern PA, with all our 120-140’ trees, I like my guys to climb on 200’ ropes, even though I personally use 150’.

I really like both Blue Moon and Tachyon. I've tried a handful of hitch cords and was pretty settled into Beeline before going to the Unicender. Spliced eye. I'll pay the few extra bucks.

You may already know this, but until the recent manufacturer change, Poison Ivy and Blue Moon were the same rope, just different colors.

I’m really happy with Xstatic.
I do like getting different ropes and trying out everything but I might just stick with Xstatic for the next few years. Thinking about a spool of it.

Braid and lace 11.5 wizard line has been super duper smooth with a 28" 8 mm armor prus 4/2 michoacan on the rope wrench. It is super glassy...scary fast at times and grabs when I need it to. Also runs very well in my akimbo. It is 100% polyester so it is nice...very little bounce for the trees in the east. Best of all the price...$342 CAD for 600 ft

I'm sold on xstatic 150' and 200' does me quite well. I haven't ridden a hitch in years but its great for the Akimbo, Rope Runner, and BDB. They all work on there with no adjustment. Huge fan of the colors. I ALWAYS use super flashy rope colors.
X2 on the xstatic yale 11.7's for second choice. I have sewn eyes on each end of my xstatic and splice my own 11.7's on each end. I almost always canopy tie and configure it so the end of my rope is near the TIP then attach a retrieval line to the eye. That way I dont have to pull a ton of rope if I need to move the TIP up higher.

I've got to throw a shout out for samson half inch arbormaster. It is indestructible. I use it mostly dr t, and don't use a cambium saver. Mostly on sweet gum and pine, which are not smooth barks. Nice and thick feel in the hands. I know it's not as popular as 11,7, but I love it. Gives me confidence. I also have 150 feet of blue moon 11,7 and its easy to climb on also, but I think my arbormaster will handle twice as much rough use as the blue moon.

I use xstatic for ddrt, 200’. Unless ascending a removal, I always use a friction saver, as the jacket doesn’t hold up very well on natural crotch descents. For srt I use htp or km3, 200’. The km3 has a great feel, though slightly more bounce than htp. 200’ is my go-to length since there are many 100+’ trees in my areas of work. I like having plenty of rope tail for ponytail redirects and retrievable redirects.

For a hitch I prefer 10mm Yale veritas, 30”, tied in a VT. On my xstatic I use a zigzag.

I started out with Samson Voyager, and recently bought more. Works great with my ZigZag and Hardy gloves. I have 150' for my anchor line and 200' in my 3:1 system. Being limited to climbs under 75' hasn't been a problem so far.

I use xstatic '200 for srt. And tachyon green '150 for mrs. Love both ropes when using in these applications. Usually use 8mm beeline, 8mm ocean poly or 8mm armorprus. Use rope wrench for set and hitch climber with Cornell hitch for mrs. I'm about 145lb climber.

That price is very appealing! You bought 600’? Sounds like your very happy with it.

@RyTheTreeGuy just wanted to ask if you’re still loving the Wizard? My mind is mostly made up to order a spool of it in blue, but figured I’d double check and see if any problems or complaints have developed for you since you last spoke of it.
Not many reviews out there for this rope, but the specs are what I’m looking for and it’s a really good price. I appreciate your input on it, thanks!

I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this rope...spliced fairly easily with a simple class 1 double braid, runs amazing with a wrench and akimbo, has held up extremely well to my ascenders and overall has been a really great rope. It knots well and is not overly stiff, but doesn't flatten with any of the devices I have tried with it. SRS, MRS....doesn't matter...both fantastic. This rope has been great from the day I bought it until now and it is still my #1 rope in my bag...ahead of my dragon fly and tachyon lines. I don't think you will be disappointed. The cherry on top is the price. Cheers
