Looking for smaller blocks to run 9/16 or 5/8 rope

Been running the Sterling Atlas 1/2” for everyday rope. Want to upgrade to 9/16” or 5/8” for everyday use for increased capabilities. Looking for a rope that size that still works with Omni block 2.6 and a small block redirect. Thanks in advance for any suggestions

All omniblocks are rated for up to 13mm. diameter. 9/16 is equal to 14.3 mm.

That being said… I generally run 9/16 or 14mm ropes in omniblocks. Between Sirius 14mm, Atlas 9/16, and Courant 14mm offerings, my favorite has been Atlas, and it is also the preferred choice for a handful of arborists I work with.

Do you know if the 9/16” fits in the Omni 1.5?

If you're set on the omni block, the 4.5 will run up to 3/4 rope... otherwise 9/16 will work in the 2.6, but 5/8 is definitely a bo go (it'll rub on the side plates at the very least)

No, according to what is on the side plate. Calls for nothing greater than 13mm. Same for 2.6. Same for tiny swivabiner, oddly.
I’ve had the buck ox in my hand which is similar in size and diameter to the 2.6, seems to have about the same physical dimensions, but is rated for 16mm. Why that is, and the 2.6 is rated for 13mm, I can’t tell you. But my experience running 14mm in a 2.6 is that it works fine.

The 1.5, with a 14mm rope, I wouldn’t do routinely. Maybe if I were out of rigging devices and using it as a redirect for a branch or two. Otherwise… my advice with that block is to stick w 1/2” or 12mm.

Got it. Thanks for your input

The 2.6 Omniblock is size limited by the width of the face plates. I've used 5/8' rope in one bunches of times, and there is some drag when the rope is unweighted, but as soon as there's any weight on the rope it stretches and the rope no longer contacts the face plates. Somewhere on the internet, I saw an arborist had send RE an email asking about whether or not that was an acceptable use and their response, as I recall, was surprisingly okay with using oversized rope. The gist of their explanation was that it would just add friction when the rope was unweighted, which is an annoyance but not a safety concern, and that there is a chance it could wear out your rope slightly faster.

Looks nice, from FTC. Gets a mustache because the French are weird? Idk, but good for 16mm

Good to know.
Thank you

Wtf? It isn’t a delay pedal, it’s a crucial piece of equipment that could be the difference between life or death. I can’t take that seriously!

You fellers do realize movember is an annual event where the growing of a moustache is done to help raise awareness for mens health issues such as prostate cancer. In other words it looks like a commemorative piece.;)
