I am looking to buy one. Thought I would check here before ordering one from Treestuff or whomever has them in stock!

Thanks in advance!!

Treestuff listed it as exclusively available there I believe. Would be surprised at that.

TS has a video where Bonner says a few things about it. One being how to thread the rope for max friction. I think it must be made a little differently that the original Morgan Block or early vision of Downrigger.

Excited to try 9/16 rope for more friction. Should receive mine in a few days.

@Merle Nelson Can you highlight the differences from the original? Did they make it better or worse?

Also not to shock you or any thing but it seems the block is readily available across the supply chain! Or at least it is listed as in stock by WesSpur and many others!!

Was hoping to find one that someone tried a time or two and is now floating around a tool bag or bin on the truck not being used!! ;)

If you watch the Bonner video clip of the RE Downrigger you'll see him click the internal "bollard" back and forth a little, saying it adds friction. I think that is different. I'll have to look at my earlier versions side by side with the RE production run to see what else but, the threading of line he showed to get max friction would reduce friction on previous units. As in all line needed to be wrapped internally. (I suspect one of us is mistaken.)

Other things different, 9/16" line capable, and 300 lb rated rather than (250 lb if I recall.)

As far as anyone letting one go - good luck. It adds so much speed and capability in lowering lots of modest size material efficiently.

Well, it turns out not only do I not read many owners manuals, I didn't read the face of a previous downrigger. It said 300 lb max and 9/16" capable all along.

And even the former Morgan Block "bollard" clicked back and forth. I just put it to work and was sadly oblivious to those things.

3 Rope Sliders no more!! :ROFLMAO:
I need to work on some of this other stuff now!! 3 Rope Runners? Pro, Green and Blue with matching Biners and Bird Flaps!! Just the tip of the iceburg!!! I'm not very bright but like my shiney tree stuff!
I'll be over to see if I can relieve you of any unnecessary gear.

Not selling mine is awesome, I do wish they'd have put more friction into the high friction side for half inch rope though, kinda silly for something with a 300lb load limit that's not meant for negative rigging to be setup primarily for 9/16 imo. Great tool though I've used it on every job since I got it.

I love using them too. 1/2 inch rope and a Down Rigger speed things up on a lot of jobs. Just got a 9/16 rope set up to use on mine. Will enjoy seeing what that's like on heavier stuff.

How do you like this compared to natural crotching?
Definitely an improvement nice consistent even with a half inch rope there's enough friction to have the ground guys easily lower a 200lb branch and easy for me to take over the rope so they can trim it or pull out of the way, with 1/2 atlas even a 50 lb piece on the highest friction setting still runs on it's own though you don't have to lower it which is annoying when your cutting and lowering by yourself.

Excellent for consistent friction, easy on rope, if it's 30 feet to the ground and an 80 foot rope pull it out of Downrigger and pull up opposite end to tie up next turn. If that was natural crotch a lot of times on trims it would be work whole 80 feet around before next set.

There was a documentary years ago about Walmart which said that their policy is to reduce the price of any item that hasn't changed in design or function within a year. This policy was single handedly responsible for the useless change and "innovation" of silly items that were just fine, like toothbrushes. As long as the manufacturers changed something in the design, no matter how insignificant, then they could maintain the same selling price year over year. At least that's how I remember it...
