Thank you guys, it's good to hear. Nice pic BOTS!

Jomoco, I'll get some vid of it on the next one. But yes, a friend had loaned me theirs to use, I had it on my saddle with some white spray paint to mark 17's and 33's while riding the hook up. Couldn't have done the job without it, I need to order two. The Log Loader was pressed hard for 33's, so we tried to get as many as possible. He said we did good.

Learned a lot on this one. Glad it's over.

I am having trouble seeing the bar now, much less getting to it. Its too high bro :)

Fly to close to the sun and you will burn your wings, end up a videographer! :)

One nice thing (there were many) was Brian had everything already planned out before we got there on day one....everybody was givin there tasks and preformed it flawless, like a well oiled machine....hats off to Brian for a well executed plan!!...15 tree's well over a 100ft tall (2 were in the 150+ range) is no easy job

Alright Bix, NICE JOB!... looks like fun...

I had to play that one drop a couple times, where two men looked like they were running out of the DZ as the tree was falling.... on the replay its clear that they were well out of the DZ... BUT they weren't looking where they were going, they were looking into their phones. Its a video of two guys taking video on their phones...

I don't like it! Not that it wasn't pretty safe in that situation... just that it sets a bad PRECEDENT... sooner or later some guy is going to be looking down at his phone, trying to push record, and get killed.. I saw it almost happen once.. 20+ year veteran, 3rd day on my crew, dropping a huge oak spar uphill across the road. I finish the cut, tree starts to go, I look up and this guy is standing right in the street, well within striking distance, just a few feet (less than 10) from the lay... LOOKING DOWN AT HIS PHONE... He walked right into the drop zone like he owned it... .

In this case 2 men were trying to record the action... one guy was multi-tasking, giving hand signals with one hand and recording with the other.. So can you trust him to be focused when you really need it???? and that fall could have dominoed a widow make their way.. Its a bad practice... no need for it. This work is already dangerous enough..

OK I FEEL BETTER NOW!

Thanks Murph!... I noticed the same thing. Your right, it does set a bad precedent, I'll talk it over with the guys. Video can add a whole new danger element to the work, although it can be a great way to learn... tree work is dangerous enough. I appreciate the input as always, thanks for chiming in.

Caleb, yes, I got the initial estimated payout from the mill, any return above that amount the home owner and I split 50/50. Glad you liked the vid.

Nice video BiXman.

Good one to show future customers also, short, easy music and looked relaxed and calm.

When did Daniel become Mr. Safety?

Just common sense dave...

Close your eyes and imagine this... big stick on the way down.. you look up and see someone has magically appeared in the drop zone... He's so close that you can't tell if he's going to get hit or not. If it misses him its only going to be a matter of a few feet... You scream as loud as you can, but he doesn't react.. he's looking down at his phone and has no idea the tree is coming.. you scream as loud as you can a second time and still no reaction... finally on the third scream he wakes up and sees the situation.... the look on his face, a moment of total terror... then he checks the look and goes casual, like "this is no big deal", as the tree lands 10' to his side..

How would you have handled that situation?

Oh, I wasn't disagreeing, I agree totally, you are spot on. I was just wondering when you turned into Mr. Safety, that's all.

Safety is as safety does... Though I will not be subject to the same rules as a rookie, when I see something off, I DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT... You always get your little warnings before hand. If you pay attention to them and make a change, either systemic or specific, that is pro-active safety-conscious awareness. Its beyond PPE and the ANSI standard. There's just too much that can go wrong, to codify it all.

I was just talking to a co-worker last night... EXPERT climber and 12 years exp, worked with some of the top companies in the area... I just found out he didn't know how to tie a clove hitch.. he's always just used the running bowline... Pretty shocking huh... as we were talking about knots he was grumbling about my running bowline.. On anything heavy, I always double the bowline. Its about 20% stronger.. Big John had just roped out a hollow 38" dbh hickory. My buddy ran the ropes and referred to all the big pieces John took with just a regular RB... (the rb is considered an inferior knot by the rescue community, I've seen one come out, actually have it on video somewhere).. In the end I had to trump him with our agreement. You never criticize or complain about someone acting too safe... Same thing as the DZ violation a few weeks ago. On a 7,000 lb rope that added 20% is 1,400 lbs... If nothing else it makes me feel better.
