Load & tensile testing facilities...

Hey guys I figured that this thread would fit the best under "The Splice Rack" even though it has nothing to do with ropes.

My sewing abilities have been refined to the point where I feel very comfortable sewing my own harness and slings but I am not willing to trust my life to them without tests being completed on the types of stitches and thread that I plan to use.

Is there any type of testing facility that would allow me to send them sewn slings with multiple different stitch patterns to have them tested for breaking strength? I am imagining sending a box of labeled slings and loops of sewn material to the company and then recieving a report back from them.

Thanks guys!!!

WONDERFUL!!!! I thought this question was a long shot. Now I might have the chance to complete the tests locally! And if that falls through I can easily send it into Treestuff.

Thanks so much gentlemen!

Hey Logan, you may also try this place locally. http://www.ccsharrow.com/ They have crane straps, cable, chain, etc. Raven said they'd do break tests on splices there, but I never got around to making that happen. They're located in that weird Bermuda Triangle-like industrial area in New Brighton, NE of St Anthony.

Wonderful! Thanks Roxy! I'd love to see the test done in person so maybe one of the local places will allow me to do that. Haha, maybe.

On the Treestuff link it says "this is not a certification". What is the difference between a computerized tensile test and a certification? Do major harness manufactures attain a certification from somewhere (maybe osha?). Is this something that a small gear builder like myself could attain?

yup, and yes i think you can watch them break test...if I recall, they do need two eyes or loops (one each end) in order to test...and as far as I know, there is no certification badge for sewing/splicing/stitching/gluing anything. Just batch testing.
