Little to tight

Nice braid. I used to want to learn splicing but I'm involved with so many different things. I just don,t have the time for it right now. Maybe someday I will drop some of the hobbies consuming my time lol.

I never dropped any of my other hobbies but I couldn't resist gearing up for splicing. Collecting tools, supplies, and building a bench with cabinets.

Each manufacturer has splicing instructions on their websites for their ropes. Sometimes it takes a bit of searching around but I believe I've found most of them. I got started with a piece of bailing wire wrapped around a piece of copper pipe for a wire fid. Sitting around on the couch one step at a time. It's rewarding when you get it right

I get 3' long pieces of music wire at a hobby shop and bend it in half for wire fids. I have a bunch in different sizes. I bought a bending jig for about $15 that works perfectly. The music wire is really stiff and I have never broken one when I bury 16 strand.

Hey, N.e.Tree, how long would you guess, days or weeks-wise, that it took you before you managed to make the first splice you were truly happy with? I know you're not going at it full time, just trying to get a feel for how long it might take an absolute newbe to come up with a usable result. Thanks in advance for any answers you choose to give.

Tim, I think that if you watch a couple videos and get the idea of how it works, that makes it much easier to learn to do. Take the time to make sure each step is done correctly and maybe one or two splices later, you should be good to go. A couple days of messing around and you'll be climbing on your splices in no time. I think I used my second splice and everyone after that. I just did a bit of research for a day or so before attempting to splice
