Linux or Windows?

Wanted to post a thought about these things.

I have used windows for years but wanted to move to Linux.

Took bit of time to find the right OS, but found one that is amazing.

'Crunchbang' is a FREE debian linux os, with some of the most powerful programs built in.

Although it takes a bit of getting used to, after a week you'll never look back at your old windows now that you have an openbox.

Worth a look if you dont want spend money over the next 30yrs on a constant money grabbing business.

Since 2009 my work and private computers run on another Linux flavour called Ubuntu. I loved it since day one. Getting used to the photo program Gimp in stead of Photoshop is actually the only reason that I regret saying goodbye to Windows.

At the time that I switched I was running Windows XP. In time it became better and better but still XP was crap.
I realized that because my Ubuntu was running, kept running and running without sudden deaths or waiting time for some background 'update'.

The programs I run are the only programs that run on the computer. No sneaky background running, data consuming programs that slow down my computer.

Anti Virus or spyware? I don't even want to think about the hours and hours that I sat behind the computer to keep the XP machine relative safe. Today I don't think of that for a second any more.

For anyone here that doesn't want to pay up big time for the Windows company's inferior build quality, for everyone that wants his computer to do what you want, when you want it, go for Linux.

You can try out most flavours from a CD or dual boot next to Windows. That way you can test it out without actually having to take the leap of faith definitively.

Not all things that you pay big bucks for are better!!!

O and another thing. When you are a Windows user, don't think you are not depending on Linux.
About two third of the worlds servers run Unix/Linux.
95% Of the worlds super computers run on Linux and four out of the five biggest internet providers have 'your' websites up and running on Linux.

Edit: correcting a typo.

spot on, good post.

my biggest problem was finding a distro that would run my wireless card on my laptop.

So many do not help or make it easy, the 'chrunchbang' was the only one that kicked in from the start.
