Linden lamp poles!

I recently did a small removal of a dead birch next door to this fiasco. A millionaires part of town where most of the trees are well cared for and the landscapes are impeccable. Couldn't help but notice this eyesore.

There is a long row of tall Lindens separating a line of houses on 2 streets. This marvel seemed to streatch the length of 2 houses, so there is more than one individual who either believes that this "pruning" is good for trees or was gullible and easily convinced by the tree cutter that this would benefit the trees!!! Either way it hurts.

I'd like to add that the pruning cuts were properly made leading me to believe that this was done by someone with some knowledge of tree pruning!

How many pics do we need of topped trees to realize they are indeed topped trees?

Everyone seems very passionate about not topping trees here but is that all we do is preach to the choir? How about this...does anyone actually attempt to educate the public or do we all just b-itch about it to others who already understand why it is bad. And when I say to the public i don't just mean the clients you visit. Thats easy. Does anyone actually make an effort to reach outside those with whom they work? I am just wondering.

I grew up in Atlantic Canada, never really noticed tree pruning being done besides for utility lines, street signs and xmas trees...nice to see they have adopted tree topping. I did not even know their was lindens, I live in Halifax one summer while working for NSP and their was man lovely trees, some great crimson maples etc...

In Mpls we started a "cartel" of concerned biz owners, we meet once a month consistantly, our goal was if we couldn't get the billy bobs to the choir we would take the message to the public. We started the annual festival of trees, a carnival like atmosphere around arborday and our TCC, kids climbs, bucket rides, scavenger hunts, kiddie parades, and various ethnic performing groups all celebrating trees and the professionals who care for trees. We also do a day to serve on vets day we invite all the tree companys offer free training, comaraderie and provide much needed pruning at the Vets cemetary. We try to get as much media attention as possible about arborists. WE were all sittin around bich'in too and then we started these meetings, volunteering takes alot of time & work but its alot of fun to get together with good tree bretheran and shoot the S____ -- - Its a start --- whaddaya gonna do /forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I was doing am prune job for one of my parents friends, dead romvals. Across the raod while I was in the back yard doing this a local comp. topped out a nice helthy maple. When I was done and packing up I looked over and saw this as they where chipping up the rest and they looked at me. I shook my head and just looked at the tree and said I think you missed a stem not level enough, and left the sence of a killin.

May 20th is our TCC and Festival of Trees, This year its a little scaled back because of ISA. So we are planning big media to welcome the public to the ITCC we will have alot of family and kid oriented events going on also . . . . I enjoy watching the competition being a climber. . . But if your not gonna fall in a lake or run a V8 chainsaw, risk ankle breakage with spike descenders, I find the public soon bores of our competition, . .. so create other hands on stuff familys and kids can do, and they have a great time, and we try to have them leave them with the sense of the difference between a professional and a hack. /forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif
