Lime Tree Removal

Just a few pics of a job here in the UK.

Lime tree (is that what you call a Linden) 28m, being removed for the local authority due to root decay. Its the largest in the street and one of the largest in the town where I live.

Still to big to fell due to lampost and road signs being too close. I wanted to take a bit more off the top but the "knuckle" at the fork union was quite big and I didn't want to drop large rings from this height.

This is my alternative to Laz's extreme rigging technique

Now we are below the "knuckle" and nearer to the ground I can throw down some more sensibly sized rings.

Wood away and final stump cut. The small branches on the timber trailer are from another windblown lime that he picked up earlier from another site.

I can strip a top off quicker than that!!

Oh the tree! Everything was rigged and chipped as we went due to limited space on the ground so a bit longer than that.

We just got the orange jackets. Been using yellow like everyone else for ages. Orange goes well with the helmets, chippers, chainsaws etc etc. I think they look better and distingiush us from roadworkers. Also my new tailgate is done in black and reflective orange so those are the colours we are sticking with.

That tree was actually a 2 day job! Don't laugh, it was a well paid two days and only about 5 hours work each day.

I think it went like this.

Arrive on site 9am. can't do anything cos of school next door. Its chaos at 9am!!

Stand around drinking tea, watching yummy mummies trying to three point turn thier enormous 4x4's after dropping one tiny tot off at school (its a no through road). Do you remember the scene in Austin Powers? It was like that.

Set up road signs etc have another cup of tea.

Get up tree by 10am and set up rigging. All done except the top by 12.30. Down for lunch.

1.30 drag lardy [censored] back up tree (post lunch lethargy syndrome)

Finish the top and all the lowering of wood by 3 and pack up before yummy mummies block the entire road again! Go home nice and early.

day 2.

watch yummy mummies again whilst drinking tea.

Block the chunks down by 10 ish, drink tea while waiting for tractor to arrive. Fell tree, load wood by 12.30.

Lunch.

Grind stump and clear up, off before the mums turn up!
