Lime tree removal

A lime tree hanging over a lake.

Badly decayed at the base and some newly planted trees right underneath, the rigging while conservative is at least neat and accurate.

To better explain my poor attempt in explaining some rigging restrictions in the second vid…..The rigging and climbing ropes were almost on top of each other affording me very little angle the send everything preferably to my right, especially those particular branches leaning to the left. I still cant explain it right

it's kind of funny ...... I am sitting here at about 8:00 pm est after a pretty hard day of working. My 43year old body is "feelin it " a bit as I sit by a fire slowly melting into my chair. But when I watch your vids, i feel like shakin off the minor stiffness and headin out to work.
Im diggin it !!! well done reg as usual.

I can relate but I gotta ask, no brewsky?

Taittree and Brendon, I'm about to watch the vid, but I'm with you on Reg's vids and getting psyched to work. I would say that is quite a huge complement to Reg's ablity and to his vids. And it says you must really love treework too!

Sure enough, great vid.

Lime wood looks like it must be rather soft judging by the way the Husky ate it up.

Lotta precision cutting goin on there. But how bout some footage of the guy who climbs around and sets the rigging??
It'd be nice to see slack tender climbing, and how Reg ties in when working the spar, for example.

Hey thanks alot

What was the height of those trees, looked to be at least 30 meters?

[/ QUOTE ]

Kevin, we were right at the end of a 60m rigging rope, so yes, 30m+ whatever it was past the rigging point.

That’s amazing. When I’m sat here watching someone elses vid, with the fan- heater pointing right at me and all…..I think to myself – Screw that!

Did you not speedline due to the decay in the tree? or would it have not worked that well?

[/ QUOTE ]

Roger, if I could have just turned the tree ninety degrees to the right it would have been far more favourable. If I’d had the option of taking bigger sections then that would’ve have worked out quicker than conventional lowering also, as there’s only so much a single guy can generate on a pull line afterall…..but such was the amount of apparent movement down at the botton that Sean (groundsman) was already a bag of nerves, so I didn’t want to add to that.

You say this every time cory and same as I’ve answered before…..I’m just not a climb-around sort of guy. If there’s a way of getting through a job without setting foot off the ground, believe me I’ll spot it!

It’s a shame you can’t all view the second vid in high quality as the fog in the background (surprisingly to me) enhances the image of the saw and logs that I’m cutting….they look so sharp its like nothing I’ve ever video’d in the past.

Nice work Reg, lucky now it's coming right down otherwise I might have to start some hysterical anti topping rant.

Thanks Carl.
While I would never condone the topping or major crown-reduction of trees’ for the sake of simply trying to create smaller versions', wildlife-conservation and habitat creation however, is of great value and importance and should never be over-looked….more so than any aesthetic consideration IMO. In the case of this badly hollowed and fractured tree, which probably housed a modest trillion or so insects and micro-organisms, the incentive to retain the trunk was in-fact the most ethic and broadminded one, thankfully.

However, being that it was positioned at the fringe of a 4+ acre mature woodland while also being at a focal point in one of the most beautifully kept and landscaped gardens I’d ever been in, I argued that to loose it altogether wouldn’t have been the end of the world either….but the problem with this site is that with 12 or so opinionated, full-time staff on grounds maintenance, there is always going to be resistance where an outsider like my self puts forth any kind of proposal!

The removal of the dying Beech tree behind it has now been postponed until the end of Feb, and I’m guessing that in the meantime they’ll change their minds yet again in regards to what remains of the lime. Too many chiefs, not enough Indians!

It's like I have been in England for the last 20 minutes!

I was able to watch both vids in high resolution, they were great!

I liked how you noticed your groundman standing there while there was chipping to do.

Such cool work, Reg, and the music selections were right on!

What was the song in the first video, if you don't mind me asking?

SZ

Yeah I was going to ask the same thing about the first song. Great video Reg - really entertaining all the way around. "Things look alot worse from the ground" - very true.

It appears that some lowlife from one of these forums has been reporting me for breach of copyright in regards to inclusion of such tracks on some of the videos….so I hope you don’t mind me holding back the specifics on this one.

Unfortunately the internet, especially the forums, provide great opportunity for all kinds of cowards and frauds….and this is but one example.

Of course in the real world these individuals rarely find the courage to express their nasty frustrations’ to people’s faces, but such is the potential for isolation and anonymity on the web that their gutless characteristics are no longer a handicap! Thanks
