Light rigging options and alternatives?

There is nothing wrong with marls, and runnin' bowlines. I just want to know what sling/beaner combos you dudes might run. I mostly thinking limb (less than 10") and smaller wood applications.

I have a dyneema sling, and a daisy chain on me at all times, but would love to see if there is loopie/beaner combo out there that can get more stuff off the saddle. Or I was thinking of trying out a sling/steel beaner combo attached to the rigging line with a scaffold, buntline etc.... How do you boys(and girls) do it?

Hope that was enough info do get some juices flowing..

I have a 3/8" tenex loopy, carabiner and an old 8 that I'd never be without. I never downrig with an 8 but on the ground? pffff I lower with it all the time. I mean only like 2 or 300 lbs. The loop was a gift from House at the Southern chapter event in '07. Anyway in the air and off the hip I use just the loopy and carabiner to lower stuff all the time but dude I keep it within reason and mostly it's to get a load moving, THEN keep it from mackin' into an obstacle without having to explain what I need to some greenie like you. Horned wonder.

I hope I meet you some day, Whiz.

You seem like a piece of work. And I do mean that as a compliment.

For small stuff, usually 5" max, I use two thin dyneema slings girth hitched to a non-locking steel biner. I stitch the individual slings together, leaving a loop at the ends to tie the rigging rope into. Quick and easy, but only for really limited rigging (conifer limbs, straight down rigging.)

Here's a video that includes this.

micro pulley and a sling always on my harness for little stuff. You would be surprised how often you use it if you keep it with you.

umm not sure why my post was removed but ill post it again.

this is what i have been using for small stuff like pines.

you can use a hand full of slings and carabiners. this system allows our groundies to stay busy. all they need to do is un-clip the biners on slings and send em back up to the climber. i use 5 slings because i like taking more then one branch at a time on pines. if im doing 5 branches ill girth the slings to the branches im cutting, clip the carabiners to the rope and then have my groundies hold the rope taught until i cut the last branch. then i give the all clear and they can begin lowering.

A variation on Josh's figure eight in a tree is to set up a double whip tackle.

http://www.smackdock.co.uk/tackles.htm

The load on the down rope is halved and the lowering speed is halved also.

When I used this system the groundie would take just a rubbing wrap on the tree to assure that there was a bit extra friction during the lower. When the piece hits the ground the groundie detaches the sling and yards the floating pulley back up to the climber. Using the F8 in the tree makes yarding a challenge or impossible. Also, the floating pulley doesn't incorporate hockles into the rope.

Dave works as a millwright. He goes to large industrial plants and fixes broken machines. We've talked about the jobs at nuclear power plants. They repair the turbine blades, a very exacting job.

In his spare time he and a friend run Mechanical Mashup. Take a look at the latest episode, he's getting ready to send his phone into space. And recover it too!

In regards to Tom D's comment on the double block tackle you could use an omni block on both pulleys would be sweet but will be less friction thats what leather gloves are for haha

it's really an honor to be able to learn from and share thoughts with all of our members and our Moderators.
I really think highly of the guys that started this site. Lives and man hours have been saved from the BUZZ i learn something every time i get on here
