I got nailed once by a hangar so hard that I firmly believe if not for my hard hat, I would have been seriosly injured or worse.

Also, one time while on the ground helping my old boss remove some tree stakes at a job where no tree was taller than six feet, my helmet came in handy. He was pulling and twisting this tree stake and it broke suddenly and cracked me surprisingly hard on my head. The customer was watching and said "now I see why you guys wear those things".

I also feel like wearing a hard hat shows a level of proffesionalism that is lacking with some other less qualified tree people.

I like those headbands that fit in the helmet. You could also try one of Petzl's super light helmets like the meteor, although I don't think that one is Ansi rated for tree work. You seriously forgot it's there five minutes after putting it on.
 
People showing up at work without ppe around here will automatically be regarded as amateurs. Neglecy about ones own security is a strong signal about how you execute your work - careless or professional.

I think wearing a helmet might be a good idea, but it should be a personal choice. I have been in the bussiness for more than 10yrs and i rarely wear a helmet except for deadwooding jobs. Quite frankly ARBOR23 it sounds like you should probably go get yourself a desk job somewhere. It sounds like people might be aiming for you if you get hit that much.
 
I just had a buddy fall about 30 feet and the only thing that saved his life was his helmet! It's cracked in half now but it's better than your head! For those of you that don't wear ppe i feel sorry for your wives, you should think about the loved ones and not just yourself!
 
The time that you are out for a head injury leaves more time for me to get more business. I would recommend that you not wear your helmet for my sake. Expecially since heads seem to be as hard as egos. Or maybe as fragile as the chip on the shoulder for not wearing it.

For that matter I think clothes are over rated an we should work naked. Who needs the protection. lol.
