Large Oak Removal

Here are a few pics of a large oak removal we did last week, the job took us 4 days total, not many obstacles to avoid except a very expensive house, old old crape murtles and a web of sprinkler heads and irrigation tubes. nothing was allowed to be bombed, everything had to be rigged and the grass had to be preserved as much as possible.

heres the tree after a cut or two, can you see me?

heres another pic of our grcs set up on the trunk, as some of you may know we had a problem keeping the grcs in place while blocking down wood, but it worked great during all non dynamic load rigging

notice the trunk taper...

heres a nice little tip tie, we recently just go yale double esterloin ropes in and they worked wonderfully, very little stretch and i never had any worries about the integrity of the rope while rigging. we rigged through a 3/4inch isc spring block the whole job and the ropes dont even look used

heres a pic after the first day of work from the front of the house, it barely looks like we did anything at all, if was a bit discouraging to see after climbing for 6 hours straight and skipping lunch to push through

Beautiful tree. Too bad it had to die.

Every click a different pic!

day 3 start, we have some work ahead of us thats for sure, notice the lowest knub left, i left it because i wanted to keep a "catcher" limb, something that would catch my larger rigged tops from swinging into or towards the house, remember, we couldnt bomb anything so this catcher limb was key, it helped save time by allowing me to avoid having to tie a tag line every piece,

the catcher piece also helped protect the grcs if any mistakes where to happen

because we had to preserve the grass to our best abilites the duramats had to be moved everyday and all of the saw dust had to be raked up everyday to avoid burning of the grass, the average temp those days was about 75-80 so we took every precaution possible

all of the wood had to be humped out on this log cart, not a fun task especially on the larger pieces, here is a pic of the lighter side of life

here you can see the alturnamat road we built, it helped the brush dragging a bit and definetly helped with the wood humping, there was no access for a tractor or skid steer

heres the mama that took the grcs out, i knew it was way too big (or at least i thought it was) so i instucted my roper to let the piece fly, i had a tire and plywood sandwich at the base of the tree to catch it when it hit, i was using the grcs to hold the butt up after the initial impact to keep it from rolling onto spinkler heads and from ruining the lawn on a roll

last pic (finally). the crew and i take a min to rest on the stick, notice the plywood and tire sandwich, it worked like a charm, not a single rut or divit, not to cut the mama up and hump all the wood out to the driveway where it would be loaded into a truck with our tractor

okay, i lied, last pic, here you can see the yard and its excellent condition after the job, in the back round you can see a huge house, that house is the reason this tree was coming down, the home owner wants to plant 25ft arborvitis along his fence line so that he doesnt have to see that house, we tried to talk him out of the removal offering many other solutions but he insisted and he paid for the job cash money, even tipped out all of us 100 bucks

i hated to remove such a beautiful tree in such great shape

Got to tell you that some clean looking work. Thats too bad when someone wants to have a nice tree taken out and you know if you say you won't do it they will just have someone else come and do it for them. A+ for the rigging and keeping everything safe. Wear them hard hats! (had to say it)

Excellent job Marc! 4 days worth of rigging and roping pieces down can be very tiring.

Did you wear your TF saddle for this job?

Is that the new ink work on your arms?

Hope you guys got paid well for that much work. Judging by the houses in the pics, the owner can afford it.

It's hard to imagine someone hating the view of another house so much that they would devalue their own yard by removing a great tree!

Glad to hear the lawn made out OK.
