Langford, Fir Removal

Great pics Reg, Scotty take some shots from the bucket. Jared had that felling cut bang on. You guys zip lined that top down, nice. You guys really took some good pics, more, we want more.

Nice work, Reg.

You going shaggy?

Shaving bark helps saw depth, but more importantly allows easier confirmation of a clean notch, no dutchman. Chips will plug up in the bark of a dutchman, concealing it.

Hey Reg:

When you descended for your spot of tea why use SRT as opposed to a fig8? That's a long day in spikes, my knees would have been screaming. Did you discuss the option of finishing the job the next day. Even though it was a cut and run the sheer volume of tree made for a big job. Keep up the great work. Good for you for letting the movie finish. Tell Scotty Tree your daughter needs a MacBook Pro 17" and you would appreciate it if they would built that into the next job.

[/ QUOTE ] I worked the whole tree SRT withe the Ropewrench, but if I descended on a figure 8 it would still be SRT....I dont understand?

We knew it would be a late finish and wasn't in the budget to go back, plus I was scheduled with another company the next day (not that it mattered).

An old time topper turned up to watch in the afternoon....when I started spurring back up after lunch he said "you're taking me back 40 years son". He wanted to see that log fall before he went home....I wasn't gonna let him down.

Nice work and great photos Reg.

Making the old timer's day like that, would have been the highlight of the job for me. Man, I have a lot of respect for those guys and what they accomplished back then.

Nice one Reg. Every day I get to avoid working in Langford is alright with me.

How about those logger king 80's throwback snowpants? Never seen them rocked with braces before. WOW

I thumped a big log from about 50ft which slammed into to roots at the base, and a couple rednecks who'd been watching from a parking lot started yelling 'thats how we do it in langford'.

What can you say to those guys, really !

You can imagine the reception he go showing up in the pants

And they're actually a lot duller in the photos than what they were a couple days earlier

Edit Thanks Chris

Nice job, nice pics, Reggie! You look different with the long lettuce...

Interesting that you are a full time srt guy. Have you tried the hitchhiker?

I'm starting to wonder about this Jared fellow, he's an experienced faller and you had to tell him how to free up his chain when bound up with sawdust??

Keep up the great work and posting!

Thanks Cory. I'll still do Doubled Rope on smaller tree's and special situations.

I've had a hitchhiker since November, its in the truck, I've never used it, I dont know why.

I dont know what Jared was doing with that saw, or why he chose those pants even....but he's a solid guy to have around, is more than happy to make a decision and take responsibility. Thats what you want.

Reg:

What I was trying to ask is; Why not substitute a Fig8 for the the eye-eye hitch and wrench. It seems like long descent on a hitch, friction hitch=heat etc. Fig8s get hot on long descents like that, but no harm done. I would not let an overly optimistic bid mess with my personal safety. I have felt that pressure many times, and now just say no. Maybe I'm just old and tired, but tomorrow will be here soon enough.

I just watched the tipping log movie and it was still pretty light out....for some reason I thought you finished up in the dark. I guess I will retract all the ramblings about tomorrow.

Sorry Mark, hadn't even noticed your post until now. It was still light at 7pm, the log probably came over 30mins before. Lot of stuff to pack away after.

I probably wasn't that high up at the time I came down for a break, nor at the finish as it was chunked down to the point where you see it fall in the video.

I work for a network of optimistic bidders mate

but you get used to it. Some very long days of late though. I never have an issue on the job, more the drive home where I dont feel so good.
