lagoon Rd Zipline

We took out 3 big Grand firs on this job and 3 smaller ones. Some headcam up 2 of the big ones, the majority of brush was ziplined, along with lots of messy deadwood which was cut and thrown. The very low stuff below and just above the powerlines was a little tricky....beyond that was straight forward enough. Biggest worry is always the wind....got away with it this time. I had about 7 slings at a time, should have been more really. We had such a steep line angle towards the end that the branches were almost free-falling. Thanks

Edit Volume seems a bit low. Might have to turn it up a little

Excellent treework, especially considering the weather. Zipline worked a treat. Glad to see your finding interesting jobs out there Reg. Hope you were paid well.

Nicely sorted Reg!

Yeah, seven slings go too quickly. A dozen's more like it for tall skinny trees like that.

Mighty fine speed line job you foul weather fiend!

Hey Reg, hope u'r not just working out there. Do you tie in at the top before working the tree out on those evergreens, and how tall were they? Did two 80 footer in a backyard the other week and Man were my knees sore. Alot of spur standing. got them done anyways.

Cheers!

It was about 140 Ricky, at least. I was working 20ft spans at a time, so yes I'd tie in about 20 ft above which ever was the lowest limb of each section, work my way up, re-set etc. No point going all the way to the very top only to come back down again. Lotta chunking down after that!

Are you doing alot of tall trees like this out there and are there any taller? When you were in the UK did you climb at this height?

They were pretty tall for residential. In such areas between 80 and 120 seems to be the norm around here. A little further out of the city we work on some big second growth upto about 170: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oXhd75JH3M

There's confifers in Scotland, North Wales and small pockets of England touching 200ft, not that I've worked on any of them. Fat, sprawling broadleaves upto about 110 was more common place for me. Did a lot of tall Eucs in Australia many years ago also.

The thing about conifers is while they grow tall etc, they're often very uncomplicated, being single stemmed. Wouldn't say one is more difficult than the other, just different. Unless you're scared of heights....then your in trouble!

Great video Reg. I showed it to my mom, who had never seen anything like that. It made her dizzy just looking at it! Lol.

Thanks

That was Tea from subway.

Never been Gord but keep hearing about it.

Chipper came late afternoon. There was only me and another guy to get all the brush off up until that point....but thats the beauty of a zip line v conventional rigging - way quicker and less hands needed.

Good Stuff Reg

Did that piece at 3:40 hit the roof?

[/ QUOTE ]

No we had good clearance the higher we got Casey. Sometimes with a short sling the line can get jammed between the biner and the wood which can stall or even momentarily stop the load. That's what happened there, and you can see how the branch appears to swing about instead of landing at the end, it was stalling. Thanks
