knee ascender OR1 Stiff left step w/ adujustable riser opinions

It's weird that haas is lawyering up against saka. The new one seems to be an imitation of saka??
If this is true Levi, I understand why Haas Tree Gear would do so. Michael spent his time and money legally setting up a business. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Richard did not. He is just selling a product that has identical use to Treestuff.com. The new haas is very different from the saka in that it uses one bungee in a mechanical advantage setup, runs around the sheave of a bearing pulley. I don't neccesarilly agree with the lawsuit but I can understand why it would be happening.

And in general the fighting over tree gear "rights" or whatever never made sense to me, it reminds me of the x ring thing. Is anyone really getting rich from this stuff? And if your intention is to help advance techniques why not just be open about it and share?
I completely agree with you on all counts man... it's silly, can't we all just get along?

The new haas and the saka are definitely different.

Where did you get the idea I have not spent my time and money?! OR THAT MY BUSINSS IS NOT LEAGAL!!!
JUST selling product with "identical" use, you mean like rope walking?

Sorry guys, I'm done here.

For the record I'm legal, have equal rights, work hard and spend huge resources of my own with no payback to this point. I'm also pro competition and choice for the consumer and within the the law concerning intellectual property rights.

@yoyoman, Please don't get upset with me Richard, that's why I said correct me if I'm wrong. Thank you for doing so. I didn't know, I just never saw a logo or any signs of branding. Ignorant mistake. I do support you and your busines, just need to know more. Again my apoligies.

Reed, I really have no idea of the details, it's just interesting to me to see the webbing on the new haas, just like saka. For the record I aint no knee ascender dude anyways, just seemed odd.
I cannot copy something that is infringing on my patent. that just does not make sense. imagine you were in my shoes. anyway using webbing was the only way to incorporate the pulley at the bottom. I was working on the Velox before he made the copy. it takes time and money to make things happen, especially with you have little money and less time! as far as Richard being "legal", patent are not criminal they are Civil. do I have a patent, yes, does Richard make a product that I could make a case that he is infringing, Yes I believe I can. and the lawyers from every tree supply house in country agree with me.. I did not "lawyer up" I have a patent, and mr Mumford refused to honor it, however all the supply companies have. is it illegal to copy a patent product? that depenends on what you mean by legal.. will the police come and bust your doors down, the answer is no. however if I did decide to take him to court, and I won he would be forced to pay restitution. I am the kinda guy that honors patents and does not want to be in a position where I could be taken to court, and I don't want to copy other peoples ideas. this is where Mr Mumford and I apparently have differing views. its interesting to me that I have been accused of suing people, that has never happened. when I got my patent, I made all the supply houses aware, and that choose to honor my work, my efforts and my creativity. and for that I am very thankful. you know Sherrill takes a beating on here, but they were the most honest and the first to honor my situation. not for a second did I suspect they would copy it. what is interesting is how the industry has reacted. when Richard made his there were comments about his cottage industry and good for him and all this. as I was reading those comments i was ironically sitting in my basement at midnight between jobs splicing and designing. And I have to admit I went dark. at that time it seemed like it was him agains me. and on here its a he said/ he said mess. so I pushed further, I did my due diligence, got my patent, which proved to the world that it was in fact my idea, and I kinda thought that would be the end of it. its kinda funny I had just watched a documentary on patents, and when a patent was issued the person trying to swoop it stopped, and big companies too! . i thought it would mean something to him. but it did not. thankfully it meant something to my distributors. if it was not for them standing up for what was right, my family would have been on the streets.. ( he has more resources than I do, time and money) I honestly hope I never have to sue anyone. ever in my life, for anything. its not my style. but I am now in a position where I have employees who are relying on me, and they do not understand why I have not done it yet, my family does not understand why I have not.. and ironically i get on here and someone seems to be saying I already did.
and that is why I have not been posting stuff up. to be honest I kinda wish I had. my company would be bigger and healthier and I could do better bigger things, and do them faster.

Is the bungee knee ascender your original idea? If not, why keep calling it your idea and thinking you came up with something that someone else already put out there? Seems as though Mr. Beranek beat you to it. Did you see his idea and decide to improve on it and then patent it? If so, what kind of royalties do his ideas deserve? Maybe all of this was covered already? Did I miss some important details along the way? Did you have a patent before this video cane out? If so, my apologies.
got my patent, which proved to the world that it was in fact my idea

Why not just do it then? See how it goes? Obviously, it's a big deal to you but to me it seems like a lot over a little, just move on is what I'd say. As far as your family being on the streets over a knee ascender dispute, that just seems like poor planning, mate. It seems like you are still bothered by this situation, it may be healthy just to move on and let it go. I hope that you can find some peace in this matter.

you again?
im not bothered, it all pays the same. its a interesting defense though, you guys talk shit for months and when I share my thoughts I am met with dude let it go?
I will admit this part is my least favorite part, its kinda like Dog crap in the Yard. you can have a great day, everything is working and every once in a while you still step in a big slippery pile. you try to avoid it, you do everything you can to clean it up, but it still happens, this is that pile for me. I really don't mind though because it really gives me perspective and I'm thankful for that , it really helps me appreciate all the other customers with pile free yards. and in this case i get practice

my bad planning did not put my family at risk to be put on the street over a knee ascender dispute, my very good planning actually got me a patent, which in large part made the dispute more avoidable.( which is what you claim to want ) and has given my family way more security then I ever had in full time tree care. do you even read what you write? do you even read with you read????
the guy with bad plan is the guy who copied intellectual property. that is never a good plan.

the bungee knee ascender is on page 149 in th 1996 "on rope book". It was around for years before that was written, im sure. I tried it in the early 2000s based off the book. I gave it another shot after Mr. Beraneks video. all these setups are too cumbersome for the practical work environment.

Thanks to Frankenhauser and his simple breakthrough, it is now an indespensible part of my climbing kit.

This Home made one works every time for me and bunches up and fits in your pocket. I used to have to replace the bungee every month and a half but I put a little harken pulley on and its still going strong after 6 months.IMGP0014.webp
