Kioritz Soil Injectors

I am starting a low-cost or at-cost service to save hemlock trees from the Hemlock Wooly Adelgid.

I need many Kioritz Soil Injectors for HWA treatments in Michigan.

Any condition accepted. I can get parts. Will pay a fair price and shipping.

Please respond if you have one to sell or donate. Please respond if you know of any other source to find them.

Thank you.

I thought most of the HWA in Michigan is on the western coast. I take it you are having significant amounts in your area?

This is about as close as you’ll be able to find based on my research if you’re not able to find an old original kioritz. I’ve been using the EZ ject soil injector for years for treatments like you’re talking about, HWA etc.

It’s more finicky than the old kiortz though. Just have to learn how to keep it clean and replace check valves and O rings as needed. It was $700 when I purchased it.

Where can you get parts for the old units?

check out the last page here: https://www.savegeorgiashemlocks.org/Downloads/Resources_page/Treatment_Instructions/SGH_Kioritz_Injector_Maintenance-Testing-Adjusting 6-28-22.pdf

"These are the standard parts that originally came in the spare parts kit for the Kioritz soil injector and are the ones that
most frequently need replacing. The kit is no longer available for purchase, but SGH may have or be able to help you
find appropriate substitute parts or arrange for your injector to be repaired..."

found that site through here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/t-d/pubs/pdfpubs/pdf21342810P/2134_2810_Kioritz_400_dpi_508_02_17_22.pdf

I'm wondering if some of the "unreplaceable" parts could be 3D printed instead of machined? Fortunately, I was able to get mine working again with a thorough cleaning, stretching the spring, and giving it a few good whacks to blow everything out as you suggested.

Cool, thanks! I’ll look into this. I was going to send my old injector to Save Georgia’s Hemlocks but the lady that I was in contact with passed away. She said if I mailed it to her, she would rebuild it for $200. I’ll have to look into if they still do this. I know some arborists in North Carolina have found machine shops to make parts.
