Kask foam breaking out

This morning when I got to work, I was getting my equipment together and noticed the hard foam in my Kask was a little loose and when I [Gently] touched one of the smaller parts that forms a hole where the vent is, it just crumbled out.. I mean crumbled like it was rotten wood. The other side feels the same way. I can't notice anything when it's on, but it seems pretty unacceptable that my helmet is literally falling apart with only 3 weeks of tree work. Has anyone else had this problem and would you recommend contacting Kask?

That's the only reason why I won't buy a Kask. I tried one on, they feel awesome, and featherlight. But that material inside sucks IMO. Wish it was the stuff Petzl uses on the Roc headband. Soft, and non-absorbing. Easily washable with simple green, and wipe down with a cloth. Good as new, and doesn't stench as quick as that other stuff would.

Love the helmet, But yeah, No need for coffee in the morning! That stench will wake ya right up, especially when still wet from the day before! Ewww

That's gross. They should really change that.

I want two orange ones.

It's like my motocross helmet/boots, it's brutal gearing up.

To clarify, I was talking about the hard foam that the soft liner attaches to. But after the first week that stank was unbearable! And then 2 weeks later I finally washed it and it kind of smells better.

i bought two sets of pads and swap them out every week

Then again i dont make it a habit to work too hard that my helmet gets all crusty.

They really should invesigate a better foam. helmet fits great but damn is it disgusting

I don't understand all these reports about the smell of the Kask helmets? I have had mine all summer, and I don't notice any bad smell when I put it on. I let it dry thoroughly between uses, as I have other helmets to use as well, but it is definitely my favorite and I can't smell anything untoward when I wear it.

I wonder if something is wrong with me now? I think I might be a replicant, like in Blade Runner; but an advanced model who doesn't know himself that he is a replicant. I will take a Voight-Kampff test tonight and report back the results . . . or maybe I won't?

The issue with helmet funk makes me chuckle.

If anyone wore the same:

t-shirt
undies
socks

for as long as they wore their helmet without washing they would ride to the job in the back of the chip truck. Look at the biology and chemistry going on.

Get out some soap and water!

Maybe a spritz of Axe would help...it does have a woodsy sound to it too.

then why did you ditch your Petzl Family?....lol

the Petzl is a superior helmet , IMO.

my vent is a year old now, I have washed the straps a couple of times right on the helmet, hosed it down and let it dry.

no smell at all :) yeah baby.....

Boots? Should I start a separate thread on, "boot funk?

I take the straps out of my vent when it gets offensive and wash them in the machine and I good to go. My feet don't smell because I shower and wear clean socks and don't eat junk food. Sometimes butterflies follow me around during the day following my sweet smell.

Cary, the petzl doesn't fit anything like my kask fits.

Th petzl flops around entirely too much, the suspension keeps it from fitting at a lower profile like the kask.

Also, I am not a fan of wearing glasses. The kask visor is much better than the screen that my petzl comes equipped with in my opinion.

Since first hearing of this matter (early September) we suspended sales and returned all merchandise to the supplier.

The US importer insists that the fragile "thin bone" (as described by the importer) of this liner is non-critical to safety and has put that in writing. We have requested reassurance from the manufacturer but have received no response as of yet.

Our position based on current information is that this is a superficial matter that needs resolution before proceeding with sales.

We were notified recently (as I'm sure were others) that fixes on new helmets are soon in route from Italy along with another update for KASK.

As for anyone shopping a new KASK I would suggest resisting several "timely" sales popping up and hold your order until this stock has passed. My two cents.
