June - crane work

Go old cowboy.

I knew this guy when I worked in FL that owned a 20 ton mid mount boom truck, he took off his latch completely so he could unhook his ball without leaving the contols. He also wanted to be able to carry full racks of marble (and large ac units) on his deck, so he got an overlenght permit so he could drive down the road with his boom sticking out over his cab. This worked great for years, until one day while driving like that he hit a bump and snapped his frame, the boom tip ended up resting on the road and the cab was pointed at the sky. He ended up filing an insurance claim for a total loss, bought a brand new replacement (same crane) and about a year later tore the turret off the crane trying to pick a 40,000lb generator, we figured he was good for about 18k.
Totally off topic, sorry

you're forgiven

Just thought I'd state the obvious as no one else has stated it. Reg is a real good crane guy and real good tree guy and, heck, a real good guy. But there are lots of good tree guys out there.

Struck me as surprising way back 4 decades ago when I thought nobody else could do the most intense dangerous td's that I always got. Then I started to notice after numerous experiences that I was wrong.....if I bid real high....surprise....go by the job later, and the tree was bye bye.

Lots of real good td guys out there but only a handful of real good tree guys that can put out real good tree vids.

Cheers Reg.

Yep, there are plenty of good tree guys but there's those that you just cringe when you see them at work. We had just such an opportunity doing a crane removal on a 150 y.o. Red oak last Friday. It was a co-dom, the other half having fallen onto a neighboring house. While we were removing the standing portion for our client another company had been hired by the tree owner. PPE was as non-existent as their shirts. By the end of our job they were still trying to get their job done. The house sustained further damage by the haphazard work. After sliding the log down the side of the house and with a wedge, chain and bar stuck, there parting words, "we'll finish it after labor day!"

Good job Reg.

Thanks Dylan. Yeah I'm enjoying it mainly because its such a contrast to what I've been on in more recent years. I've been absorbing plenty about working with conifers, complimented by the fact that I've gotten involved with great bunch of guys thoughout the 2 main companies that I've been working with. One in particular is a second generation arborist who himself has worked the area since the late 70's I believe....he's always pointing out little characteristics of the tree's here and there which I really appreciate. Lots still to learn which to me is a big part of life is about.

Victoria is a nice, relatively safe city. The lifestyle it offers may be a little premature for me though....too early to say though as I'm still settling in really.

...these things dont just fall into place by chance. Thanks again

Yep. I agree 100%.

And I'm sure many of us (on Tree Buzz) can recognize good skill because most of us here try/do skilled work too.

So, it's an enjoyment to see pros all around the world (like you Reg) putting down calibrated crane work.

The reason that you feel this way, "Oldirty," is because you act like a dick online, and Reg does not. I have been told by several well trusted buzzers that you are actually a nice guy, but man, you sure don't show it here. Why is that? Are you the one that's insecure? Your mentality that the only people that deserve respect are the ones that can do what you do is really childish, and it's bad for our industry. In short, grow up. Sorry to be so blunt, but hey, that's how you are, so you should get it.
