Jr. GRCS

With the original idea from Mike Teti, I came up with this version of a shrunk down GRCS.
The thing works great! I was able to carry it out to a difficult to walk to area and the lighter weight made the packing a breeze. I used it to rope down several dead Redwood limbs. It worked like a dream. Setting it on the tree was easy as well, I did it myself without any trouble

Got it, Can you drop a volvo on it? seriously, What do you think its limitations are?

[/ QUOTE ]
Probably the same as the original: 900 kg and than the line starts slipping on the drum.
The GRCS beats the tirfor by miles but it still is a heavy load. It looks great Frans. I think Greg needs to get one for free from you for christmas for giving you such a great example. Think if you start producing those you both could have a chat first. /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Here's a shot of the Teti LD. Great little unit, with the upper Harken winch and integral lower bollard. Two strap binders are mounted opposite each other at the top & bottom of the unit.

On the Geckos is Charley Wagner from Boulder, Colorado.

This shot is from the Bugs & Crud section of the Buzz. The thread flew under the radar with only 53 views, but lots more rigging shots are at: Asian Longhorned Beetle in NJ thread

Don't even bother Glens, these pics show detail.

My 2nd attempt failed at uploading a 4.75 megabyte Quicktime video of Joey Cornell up in the tree (saying 'when') while Mike Teti cinches up the line on his lowering device.

The error message says the file must be in .mpeg; .mpg; or .wmv format.

How do I convert this .mov Quicktime file to an acceptable video that the buzz can digest? Appreciate any help outside of suggestions that I actually go out & PURCHASE some video editing software.

Meanwhile, here's another still shot of Charley.

(Really sorry, Glens!)

The United States Climbing Team in action. Mike Teti has cut up the piece, and Joey Cornell cranks up the GRCS to pull it over.

Back to work, Charley. Why is this man smiling?

Notice the tip tie on the Silver Maple at the upper left of this pic. This tip tie was rigged thru a pulley in the top of another tree, then ran down to a LD anchored at it's base.

The True Blue butt tie was anchored to another LD at the base of Charley's tree. This line was given a bit of slack.

Two lines (one at the tip tie, one at the butt), each with their own LD, allowed the piece to be safely run out away from the climbers legs, yet not strike the wooden deck or concrete patio below.

It's just like a steer being stretched between two ropes on different saddlehorns on two horses at branding time. One noose around the neck, one noose around the legs.

Ride'm, Cowboy!

A shot of the wooden deck under the tree, with Charley & the Teti LD.

Every once in a while I would grab a rope and do something useful. Luckily, these guys didn't notice I was sloughing off, letting them do all the work.

Last shot of the Teti LD, for those of you just itching to fire up the welder.

Thanks to Greg Good for coming up with the beefy version. I spose any design can be copied for personal use. It's only protected against sale for profit by the patent.

Also, Ken Johnson just donated a LD to the Canadian TREE Fund auction. It was used by Robert Phillips in his rigging demo at the Pacific NW ISA Annual Training Conference in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, last month. Thanks a bunch.

Until the .mov file incompatibility can be worked, these videos will have to be stored. Windows Movie Maker will not allow importing .mov files, nor will Winzip squash them. What to do?
